Commercials. Or the lack of.

Posted from my SmartPhone!

Why haven't O made any commercials about the SPV at all?? I have only seen those posters outside the O shops which are easily overlooked when you walk by minding your own business. Aight, maybe it's just the danish telly that has been banned from showing the adds, I dunno (but I doubt it). In the past year I have experienced about a million incidents where peeps have been wondering about my phone... Wow what's that? Who made it? What brand? yada-yada, etc etc... and nobody has ever heard about the SPV before. Ofcuz apps like Windows doesn't have adds either, but peeps knows about their presense. Look at the "badword" :) N-Gage for example. It's getting more and more famous as each day goes by, and "all" it does is exactly the same as the smartphones, except it's got a cheap looking plastic finish and looks like a gigantic taco! Word. When are the world gonna know about the SP's? Maybe the intruduction in the States will help. Guess we'll have to wait and see.

I second that! Smartphone's are great! However, i know that my housemate ukpauls loves the exclusivity of his phone!

I was wondering if Motorola are going to have a TV ad campaign when they release they're smartphone (the MPx200 or whatever its called). They have for previous phones like the C350, and if there's one phone that would sell much more with a bit of publicity, its this one.

Just some thoughts on promotion (or lack of) for the SPV series:

a) How many other Smartphones do you see advertised?

(Off hand, just the 7650/3650. Seen any TV ads for the P800?)

:) Of those that are advertised, what are the key selling points?

(7650 - Photo messenging, 3650 - video. Neither promoted as Smartphones)

c) The SPV is Orange's own phone for all intents & purposes - shouldn't they be doing all they can to push it?

(I would have thought so!)

There are probarbly several reasons as to why Orange didn't advertise as much for the SPV as you think they should have. Firstly the SPV was (is?) intended for the Buisness users, or said in another way ... its not for your everyday n00b! ... Secondly its was the first MS based smartphone around, and was bound to have more bugs than the average phone ... So having "too many" of them out there would mean more expences on the tech support front ... After all, Orange sells alot of phones in the same pricerange that are much easier to operate and have fewer bugs ... so why not advertise those instead?

Another thing you could say is that those people who actually need and want Smartphones already know of the existence ... so why advertise?

Just my 2 cents ...

Have you ALWAYS known you wanted a Smartphone?

Is the smartphone market static? Nope... its growing! And why? Because more people are learning about smartphones and are aware of them!

cant agree more, ms smartphones need far more advertising than your average phone, they are unique, and for the smartphone platform to be a success more and more people need to buy smartphones, if they dont even know of their existnce, how can they possibly know to buy one :)

even now i take out my 'old' spv and still get comments of 'what is that? never seen one of those before' rather sad for a year old phone, and when i say its a microsoft operating system they are astonished.

Basicly Yes, I have been following this since the early Sendo Z100 concept days ... but anyway, maybe I wasen't being clear enought; I was imagining Orange's point of view ... Of course I want to see more people with a MS Smartphone, duu! :)

Another reason why nobody's heard of the SPV is that it's not stocked in that many phone stores. Carphone Warehouse haven't stocked the E100, and it's never at the front of any other store (excluding maybe the Orange Shop).

This is true - in the Link all they have are SPV cardboard cutouts on their section with the XDA.

Crispy - advertising is mainly a mechanism for persuading those that HAVEN'T made up their mind about a purchase! My life we be so much easier if I was selling product to people who had already decided to buy it!
