Guest drblow Posted October 27, 2003 Report Posted October 27, 2003 Err... After yet another replacement handset due to gprs, I happened to have a good connection today, so thought I would try to watch a video file (I have never been able to do this before as gprs wouldn't stay connected). I just went to windowsmedia.com from the favourites list, & clicked a link for a clip from 'Once upon a time in Mexico'. I DL'ed the 400kb-ish .asx file, which started playing the first 8 secs of the clip, then stopped, went blank & en error came up saying the file couldn't be played, and the path or filename may be incorrect. Having never done this before, now I'm a bit confused! Was it just a bad link/corrupt DL? Do you need to do anything else to watch video clips? :? I was speaking to 156 about another issue, & mentioned this problem - the monkey said O don't accept any responsibilty for content DL'ed from another web page. But the file DL'ed ok, it was once it had finished the phone wouldn't play it. Is this just another rubbish part of SPV usage?? Certainly isn't doing anything to boost my confidence in using GPRS for media - that DL cost me a quid!!
Guest Richie M Posted October 29, 2003 Report Posted October 29, 2003 This is a well documented problem with GPRS streaming in the UK on the phones :? I know its no comfort to you ATM but the upcoming Orange update is 100% better for streaming :)
Guest drblow Posted October 29, 2003 Report Posted October 29, 2003 Si, is what happened to me (file plays first 10 secs ish & then stops) the usual error? It just seemed as if the problem was within the phone rather than with streaming.
