I know the audible player works fine on pocket PC (for those that don't know by the way, this is software that speaks books to you, which is rather cool) BUT i was wondering if anyone has tried to get in on the SPV platform. If not, are there any other audible ebook readers for the SPV platform??

AFAIK there's nothing like that for smartphones. Sounds interesting though. If you plead enough at some of the delevopers in the forum you might be able to persuade them to port it to the SPV.

It has been a LONG time waiting but a beta has finally been released for the Smartphone + Audible!!! I have a copy of it and it works great!! You can email them at [email protected] to get a copy and fill out a response form to comment on the software. You need to dowload the Smartphone version of AudibleManager and uninstall your current version. Currently works on:

Verizon i600

Samsung i600

AudioVox SMT5600

Orange SPV200

This is Chris from www.audible.com.

We've reposted the software available on www.audible.com/software to include both the AudibleManager for desktop and AudiblePlayer for smartphone.

We've been able to successfully use the Samsung Sprint i600 and the AudioVox SMT5600 in our beta program. Other users have reported luck in using other Microsoft Smartphones.

Has anyone had sucess with this on an Orange C500? I know it's the same as the Audiovox 5600, it's just that when I install the software I get "Can't determine PlayerID" and so this stops me activating the player and so playing anything at all.

Yes I had this problem and after a month or two of fiddling, I finally called Customer Service. They refered me to the beta program as the player for this device is still in beta stages. The software on Audible's website Labeled "SmartPhone for WindowsMobile" is only the desktop software. There is currently no place to download the actual player software from their website. The player software must be installed on your phone for the dektop software to communicate with it. You can get the player software by emailing the beta program at [email protected]

Yes I know that, the desktop software works fine. And the CAB file I got emailed from the beta people installs fine too. But when I start this program (the one on the phone) it comes up with a message saying "Can't Determine PlayerID". As such, when I try to activate it using the desktop software it returns an error (naturally).

The thing is the C500 is the same as the Audiovox SMT5600 so it should be no problem.

Hence my confusion.

We are currently working on getting our application signed by Orange or Microsoft so it will work on the C500 phones from Orange. The SMT 5600 currently works because it is an open phone. For now the C500 will not be able to run our application.

and is there any way to app-unlock an Orange C500? Cos mine gives the "Can't determine player ID" error so I'm guessing that's why? It's a fairly new phone (bought last 3 months) from Orange.

You can application unlock the C500 from the developers site  :D

http://developer.orangews.com/orgspv/comdef.aspx

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

cool, and that is what's needed for the C500? Because I remember finding that page a while back, but as the picture if just an SPV, and all the text refers only to the SPV, I just discounted it as I figured it wouldn't work or wasn't needed on the C500.

Will it work the same if I'm running my C500 on O2 ?

Well, I went through that Device Unlock thing on the Orange page with my C500. It said it worked, came up with the page anyhow saying the device's certificate has been disabled.

So I installed the Auible beta again and it comes up with exactly the same message as before, "can't determine Player ID".

any ideas?

This is how to get by the"

"can't determine Player ID"

I found that I got this error when using the Audible Manager "2002/2003" PocketPC Device. I went to Device->Choose New Device" and picked the old "Pocket PC" Device and I was able to Activate my Device.

You may have to load in the old "Pocket PC" Device if it is not listed.

So you're not using the Smartphone edition of AudibleManager that you can download from their site?? You're using a Smartphone with "Pocket PC (2000 and earlier)" ??

I get this error on the Smartphone itself, is that where you got it??

I never had that problem, it just worked as soon as I installed it on my phone. Do you have the most up to date version of activesync?

Guest pugzi

I eventually figured that I did need the latest Activesync from Microsoft because I couldn't install any new programs on the SPV, anyway, all ok now and working a treat. Although i have found that after adding a new book, you have to close Audible completely down before you can use Audible Manger to sync it across to the phone (thats if it didn't do it automatically when you downloaded it first). Other than that I have found no major problems. Even the syncing onto the card reader works a treat, 3 full books onto a 256 mb card, woo woo!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

I'm a very happy bunny, was listening to the Stephen Hawkins about the Universe this morning on my drive to work, will start the Life of Pi next week. ;)

Question for Chris at Audible or anyone else with experience with my question.

I'm using the Audiovox SMT5600 and successfully loaded the player and am able to download Audible files and listen to them through the speaker or an attached headset. I can't get it to work with my Bluetooth headset. It will work for just a few seconds but only because my phone thinks I'm trying to initiate speech dialing. Any ideas on getting it to work with the BT headset?

I believe you have to use a proper task manager to kill a process off. The process is involved in voice dialling.

I'll go and see what it is...

[edit]

Found it

taken from here

I read a trick somewhere on this forum and this is what i do to get music through my bt headset

1. bond the devices

2.select your bluetooth headset as hands-free device

3.start taskmanager and end the process cdial.exe

4.press the call/connect button on your bt headset

now all my sounds go straight to my bt headset icon_smile.gif hope this helps
