Guest mattscholey Posted October 28, 2003 Report Posted October 28, 2003 How can I remove the 'Information' icon from the start menu, as it is the most useless application, but one of the most prominant on my phone. Matt
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted October 28, 2003 Report Posted October 28, 2003 Try this suggestion from Simon Desser It won't let you rename or delete it directly on the phone (it says it's either read only, or you don't have sufficient privleges). But, if you connect your phone via ActiceSync, and browse to the shortcut in IPSM, Windows, Start Menu (I think it was called something like SimTK.ink) you can simply delete the shortcut using your PC. Obviously it will still show up till you either quit all apps with a Task Manager, or restart your phone
Guest mattscholey Posted November 6, 2003 Report Posted November 6, 2003 Using Activesync explorer i've browsed to that directory, and theres no SimTK.ink or anything similar there? Any more help, Matt
Guest Simon Desser Posted November 6, 2003 Report Posted November 6, 2003 Using Activesync explorer i've browsed to that directory, and theres no SimTK.ink or anything similar there? Any more help, Matt I just checked on another phone, and it's definitely in IPSM, Windows, Start Menu, and it's called SimTKUI. If it's not there I don't know, but it's worked for me on two phones :?
Guest Richie M Posted November 6, 2003 Report Posted November 6, 2003 and its a lnk file not a ink file :( (thats LNK) lots of people make that error :)
Guest mattscholey Posted November 7, 2003 Report Posted November 7, 2003 Nope, I open IPSM/Windows/Start Menu and there is nothing visible that isn't an app i use, and is on my start menu. Any help? Matt
Guest blewer Posted November 7, 2003 Report Posted November 7, 2003 Use smart explorer, it should be visable on there :)
Guest statscat Posted November 7, 2003 Report Posted November 7, 2003 There should in IPSMWindowsStart Menu be a shortcut to (it has the little black arrow on the icon like on the desktop and its superimposed on an executable icon) called "SimTkUI" Copy the shortcut across and back it up on your pc (you may want it back later) then just delete the shortcut from your phone and it will disappear.
Guest Simon Desser Posted November 7, 2003 Report Posted November 7, 2003 OFF TOPIC but me & RichieM look good together in this thread cuttin' it up on the wheels of steel :)
Guest mattscholey Posted November 7, 2003 Report Posted November 7, 2003 statscat: its not there. I'll try smartexplorer and let you know how I get on with that. Thanks, Matt
Guest mattscholey Posted November 7, 2003 Report Posted November 7, 2003 Ok, so i've tried Smart Explorer. The good news is the link is there. The bad news is that when I click on delete, it asks me to confirm that i want to delete it, I click yes, and then it says: "Unable to delete file 'IPSMWindowsStart MenuSimTkUI.Ink'! Any help, Matt
Guest Simon Desser Posted November 7, 2003 Report Posted November 7, 2003 Ok, so i've tried http://smartphone.MoDaCo.com/viewtopic.php?t=55367>Smart Explorer. The good news is the link is there. The bad news is that when I click on delete, it asks me to confirm that i want to delete it, I click yes, and then it says: "Unable to delete file 'IPSMWindowsStart MenuSimTkUI.Ink'! Any help, Matt That's what I originally posted was happening to me, but it will let you delete it via active sync on your PC (only if you can see it of course :? )
Guest statscat Posted November 7, 2003 Report Posted November 7, 2003 oh it will be those pesky windows folder setting When you are sync'd with you phone, go to the folder IPSMWindowsstart menu then from the IE menu TOOLS -> FOLDER OPTIONS click the TAB that says VIEW make sure you SELECT SHOW HIDDEN FILES AND FOLDERS then make sure that HIDE PROTECTED OPERATING SYSTEM FILES (Recommended) is UNSELECTED that should let you view the files. (I think)
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted November 7, 2003 Report Posted November 7, 2003 Also certain versions of Activsync mixed with certain updates will make some files on the phone invisble on the PC :?
Guest mattscholey Posted November 8, 2003 Report Posted November 8, 2003 SOLVED - Well done statscat. Thank you so much for all your replies. Matt
