Guest Pagemakers Posted October 29, 2003 Report Posted October 29, 2003 Mr Orange The MS Mobiles website states: " Unfortunately Orange operator is not present in many countries (including one of the biggest ones like USA or Germany) and it also has nasty practice of software-locking of "orange" branded smartphones (it is unclear whether the unlocking for E200 will be even available at all)." Please can you confirm if this is the case - will the e200 be software locked the same way as the e100? If it is, I (and I imagine hundreds of others) will be buying the QTek, available from Expansys.
Guest spacemonkey Posted October 29, 2003 Report Posted October 29, 2003 I think Orange won't be leaving it completely unlocked, but I think the key question is "Since the e200 is Smartphone 2003, will it's application lock be set in the mode where a user is prompted about running unsigned software?" This is what it should be, the phone prompts the first time you run a new app (if it's unsigned/from an untrusted source) and the popup says something like "This application is unsigned and may impact the performance of your phone, do you want to continue? Yes/No" Very good solution all round.

Orange's network sucks ass in the Netherlands (sorry Mr. Orange) so there is no way in hell I'm switching to it in order to be able to use the E200.. Qtek it is then :twisted:

Similar to the way Internet Explorer behaves with activeX on your PC. (The above is just rumor and innuendo... no hard facts)

As it should've been since day one :roll: :wink: There's a lot of people out there not useing their SPV to anywhere near it's full potential due to app locking.

Guest spacecowboy6982 Posted November 5, 2003 Report Posted November 5, 2003 I believe that Orange would be stupid not to allow unsigned apps to run on these phones. The developers make it what it is today and without them, I believe the SPV would be a pretty dull phone.
