Let's be honest about our Smartphones!

As more handsets are emerging running Windows Smartphone software, and we now have news of other networks in the UK as well as Orange releasing these models, it's exciting times for the MS Smartphone platform :)

People comment how this is just what's needed to increase the popularity of the Smartphone, and how great it is that it will now be seen as a threat to Nokia and Sony Ericsson etc.

BUT, let's be honest, how many of us, secretly love the fact we've got a really cool phone that MOST people have never heard of :?:

How many of us secretly love the fact that HARDLY anyone else we know/see have got one :?:

If "every man and his dog" had one, would we still want it :?:

I know it's great for software development etc. but just how popular do we really want it to get :?:

Let's be honest

Hehe nice one Simon. I was talking about this with my m8s today (who ive managed to convince to get E-200's) and i love the fact that everytime I whip out my phone someone actually says, "ooh nice phone, where/when did you get that?" Being out for over a year and people still dont know it exists amazes me really ! I dont think the Scottish have a clue - theres only a select few of us with one of these badboys in our backpocket lol 8) . Peronally i dont want other people to have one - its almost unique hehe !

:) Yup gotta agree with you there  Sad but true

I love the fact that people have no idea you can get a phone with a Microsoft operating system. Then you play them the matrix trailer, fire up some tunes and check your hotmail.

:( Yeah but there always be a newbetter version and it'll be the folks like us that have them. Just so we can say "oh this old thing, had it for ages, your phone doesn't play holographic movies??? shame" :D

how popular do we want it to get???????

VERY

for software development/hardware development/os development/carrier support (not to mention MoDaCo growth) it is essential for the smartphone platform to grow. I agree i come under the sotfware development side, and I for one need the smartphone platform to be a huge success. Some of us have bills to pay you know :)

Some of you complain about the lack of games, this is simply because its easier to sell games for symbian based devices cos theres many more of them, sell more smartphones and more developers will see it worth their time developing games for it. And now is the right time for that to happen because of the growth in other countries such as the USA and also because more carriers are developing/selling ms smartphones.

And let's face it, even if Smartphones were as ten-a-penny as Nokias, we'd still be the people making the best use of them! :)

guys...an honest opinion....

I was a t68i user...moved to o2 xda...then for bluetooth moved again to p800....then for portability moved to t610(though here i missed showing off all those videos and downloading mails but what to do the convinience of using a bluetooth is just amazing...then suddenly moved to qtec because of this forum...then somehow managed and got the mitac mio smartphone with camera ...now here i felt as if i had everything and wrote atleast 20 times in this forum..bought a lot of softwares...but somehow without bluetooth support was unhappy...then the hanging of the smartphone everytime ...then people started saying i hang like my phones too...fact..half the time i was stopping my car to reset and then call....

then changed my whole world again...for last 10 days nothing has gone wrong...i sold all my phones and ipaqs for a big sum to buy my self all sort of new devices..

because from dubai has come my new device IMATE...XDA2 or whatever...everything perfect...life,videos ,mails, bluetooth, incoming photos and all that u can do with a pda...i love my life again and now i am on a 400mhz processor..so i dont hang...i feel smartphone needs to grow a lot and xda 2 is already here....should we compromise?

Simon...

Funny, it WILL be sad to lose my unique status of being the only person I've ever PHYSICALLY SEEN with a Smartphone. I currently don't have one anymore as I've switched to a CDMA carrier and am waiting for the i600. So it's even more sad to see other people with the phone when I don't currently have one! :(

Midnight....

Sometimes...it's just easier (and more fun) to complain than embrace the obvious success that will gained with a larger audience. :D

That's my feeling exactly. Most people are very stupid!

It's kinda like with PCs, it would just mean that your ability to use your phone impressed people, rather than the phone.

Let's be honest

:) he, he - that's typical DJ talk!!

I disagree completely - I bought this phone because I wanted it (I think it's medically known as gadgetitus)! The dsecision had nothing to do with how exclusive or whatever I would be percieved to be in having it, or how few other people had one. Infact most of my mates had bought smartphones before me, & I only got one after having a good go with someone elses, which convinced me I needed it!

Surely with the development potential of a phone like the SPV, the more popular it becomes, the more we will get out of the phone, therefore the better it will get - look at windows!! 20 years ago, there was no such thing as a PC, only business machines running DOS & UNIX!

I hope everybody gets a smartphone, & the development goes through the roof, & eventually the phone WILL be able to make us a nice cup of tea!!

Anyway Simon - if it becomes really popular, you can always (in true DJ fashion) tell people that you were into it from day 1 & you are still using your old school SPV first issue with OS2002 still running - coz it just sounds better! :( :D

:) old skool SPV! Maybe one day people running OS2035 will run SPV emulaters to recreate those "crazy" retro games in only 2D 64K colour

LOL

OMG  you're right, I do sound and act like a typical DJ

I got my SPV back in November 2002, and then I got my Tanager imorted from the Philipinnes in April (White label promo copy of course  )

And before I transfer any music to my phones SD card, I add crackles in Cool Edit to make it sound like vinyl

(And no word of a lie, I still use two Akai S950 samplers, and an Atari ST running Cubase off a floppy disc to produce my music - OLD SKOOL TILL I DIE :!: )

:) :(

So true! My mate is exactly the same! He's bursting for an E100, but wants to keep his SPV, so he always has the retro 'original' phone! Sad! :D

Keep it old school, I say - I still use an akai S01 sampler hooked up to an atari 500 ST for live shows!! They might be old, but they're reliable as hell when it's 900C in a club & you've poured 6 pints over your gear!!

Well, living in the US, I'm still safe as having the phone that everyone envies. :)

What's even better is that I work in a group of software developers who do primarily Microsoft development which makes it even better  plus we're all gadget fanatics.

Of course, I'll admit it, I like having a phone that everyone wants.

Very true guys, I just got my phone 2 weeks ago and I am very pleased with what it can do. Almost all of my friends are in awe everytime I show them Matrix trailer and video clips, they were like in awe because the SPV screen is not like the other colored phones in the market today. I want it to be developed but to be honest I dont want everybody carrying SPV's in the near future.

I'm stateside and I'm quite happy being the leader of a small band of Smartphone Users / Desirers. Now all I need to do is get a wholesale shipment in and I think I can up my status to "Smuggler" :-)

You only have to look at Modaco since the announcement of the Smartphone being pushed in the US to show what it could be like in a years time!! Can't wait!

I will miss being able to show off my phone. Even the WAVs are ringtones ability is still a winner with alot of my friends. I commute via rail everyday and i love to see people eyeing up my phone as i fire up an audiobook and start playing some games or MSN chatting.

And i have only ever seen one other SPV "in the wild" before - how long before they are as common as Nokia?

I agree and disagree with all this stuff. Think about what Morpheus2702 said... We will ALWAYS be able to make other people freak about our stuff. We will more then likely have the newest phones available (I envy you UK guys who will be getting the E-200 soon!!!) and when you run into someone with the same phone, you are almost always going to know way more about it and have cool stuff running on it. The Matrix trailer is a good example. You think, when this phone is in everyone's pocket like a Nokia, they will know how to really use the phone? No way! We will still be able to "show off"! No worries!
