Guest Goutetsuu Posted October 30, 2003 Report Posted October 30, 2003 I had my SPV updated to the Dutch ROM maybe 2 months ago. Before i updated to the Dutch ROm i had my phone de-certed. Just the other day my phone went weird on me and somehow went back to a un-de-certed phone?? Now I've had that problem before, and usually it happened when my battery was low, so all i had to do in the past was to charge it, and it would go back to normal (de-certed). Now when i charge the phone thinking it would revert back to it original way, the phone still remained un-de-certed. Now i'm trying to find out how to de-cert it again, and trying the OTA unlocking which doesn't seem to work. So now i want to upgrade to the I-mate ROM which i heard was unlocked, but before i do i want to back up my IPSM as i've heard if you try to go go back to the original Orange Uk update, the phone has trouble dialling out, something to do with the GSM stack? I tried using USBTerm to back it up, but it did nothing, maybe i'm doing it wrong or something, can anybody tell me how to use the program properly. Also i'd like to know that if i back up my IPSM to my SD card and then upgrade, can i still use all my applications stored on the card without any problem? Will there be any confilcts? And how do i reinstall my orinigal IPSM once updated? BTW i'm using bootloader 0.99 if thats of any use.
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted October 30, 2003 Report Posted October 30, 2003 To use USBTerm you need to have bootloader V0.98 or below and have Win2k or XP on your PC. As for decerting try using passthrough instead of GPRS this should work. Have a look here for non UK decerting. http://smartphone.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?t=25600 Also as for running a different update why not wait a few weeks and use the Official Orange update?
Guest Goutetsuu Posted October 30, 2003 Report Posted October 30, 2003 ok, if i downgrade my bootloader are there any severe side effects, also i'll have look into this passthrough option, looks kinda in depth. and when do Orange' think' they are bringing out this update, is it for definate, anyone have confirmation on this or just speculation? sorry to be so pesimistic, getting tired of Orange's performance with support
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted October 30, 2003 Report Posted October 30, 2003 Downgrading the bootloader had no side effects. The update will hopefully be in a couple of weeks (not definate though)
Guest Goutetsuu Posted November 4, 2003 Report Posted November 4, 2003 ok, i didn't go through all that mess of using pass through, what i tried to do is updgrade back to the Orange uk rom from the Dutch rom and then try to de-cert it by using the changing of mxip_oem_10.provxml file. I tried that process a couple of times, but this time round no luck, is there any reason why? Is the Orange OTA unlocking the only way now? BTW if i do mange to get the Orange OTA unlocking to work, is it a sure bet gaurantee (spelling??) that it will work permanantly and won't re-vert back to a certed status?
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted November 5, 2003 Report Posted November 5, 2003 With newer updates 1.3.5 and above on Orange you have to use the OTA method for decerting your phone. As for recerting, this will only happen if you perform a Hard Reset or the OS becomes corrupt and a Partial Reset takes place.
