Guest Posted October 30, 2003 Report Posted October 30, 2003 Hullo everybody, First let me introduce myself, my name is Howard, I'm from Ireland and I've been lurking around the boards here for a couple of weeks, learning about the various smartphones and software and customisations. So my question is what should I do first with the phone? Sit and fully customise it or upgrade/downgrade the rom? Also, I did try to find a procedure for doing that and while there is lots of different pieces of information, there does not seem to a single procedure that can help a new owner. I'd like to have a version of rom that most people agree is the best one. Be that i-mate or Qtek, or SPV. What's the general opinion on that. Regarding the custom screens and things, you guys really do a great job on making them! They look incredible! Well done. My question on this, is do I need anything extra for the phone to make them work, any tweak or registry hack or do they just run depending on the cab or hme file? Thanks in advance for your help. Cheerio Howard
Guest martin Posted October 30, 2003 Report Posted October 30, 2003 Hello Howard It's good to see you have given up lurking  If its a SAP ROM then then it WON'T need application unlocked (also known as de-cert) :) The very first thing people usually do is install Smart exporer and Task manager from www.monolithix.org and then install a new homescreen. Have a look in the FAQ section for first '48 hours with a smartphone' for information on how to do these. I would stick with the ROM that you have for the moment and wait to see what the Orange ROM brings us in a couple of weeks.
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted October 30, 2003 Report Posted October 30, 2003 Which phone do you have is it new or secondhhand and what network are you on? also have a look in the FAQ section http://smartphone.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?t=89276 As for updating it's best to keep with your phones operator so if you are on Orange there is an update coming out soon.
Guest Posted October 31, 2003 Report Posted October 31, 2003 Hi Guys, Thanks for the responses. The rom is a Qtek7070 version 1.50.9.1 everything seems to work well. I am going to go through the motions of setting up the wap and gprs connections for myself, then I'll jump on the task manager and file explorer and start looking at tweaks. Thanks Howard
