Guest chucky.egg Posted October 30, 2003 Report Posted October 30, 2003 [Mods - close this thread if you think it's pointless!] I know there are other places these have been posted, but for the developers in the competition it might make it easier if we post ideas of apps we'd like to see in one place. Some of the other suggestions have been done to death, or maybe actually produced already - so lets post apps we'd currently like to see produced... I'd like: (1) CSV editor. An app that lets me edit CSV files  (with header line, so you can name the fields). No fancy calculations required, just create/edit records and retain the CSV format for import into Excel/Access etc (2) A "simple" banking program - maybe an extension of the above. Defining multiple accounts (current/checking acc, credit cards etc), and being able to record payments and receipts on those accounts. It would also be quite useful to be able to tell it an actual balance from time to time, and have it make an adjustment to the calculated balance (so if I forgot to tell it I spent $100 on something it would "realise" when I told it the actual balance, and put an "unspecified spending of $100" entry in automatically) It might be asking a bit much, but my bank lets me download a CSV statement online. Being able to import that would be dead cool! (3) A cell-based event handler. I don't know what else to call it. Something that performs an action when you enter or leave a specified cell. Something like this: Psiloc miniGPS It really ought to be able to handle cell "harvesting" (recording cell details as you travel, and letting you specify a logical name for that cell) and importing of cell lists from other peoples travels. That might be complicated, so maybe thats a Version 1.1 feature! (4) A file-sync tool that works through ActiveSync. Being able to sync files and folders through ActiveSync would be handy. I've tried the stand-alone apps, but I thought most were lacking a certain something. There you go, should only take 10 minutes to knock that lot up surely! :)
Guest mwille Posted October 30, 2003 Report Posted October 30, 2003 Can't resist posting my wish here :) It's a veeeery small and (probably) rather simple request.. I would really love to be able to show my tasks on my (pocketpc like) todayscreen... pleaeaeaease ?? I image it would look like this :
Guest MoRFLeZ Posted October 31, 2003 Report Posted October 31, 2003 An app that can back-up your sms to your SD card .. and restore them back to the inbox
Guest drblow Posted November 1, 2003 Report Posted November 1, 2003 Some kind of full back up to PC via active sync - one that will let you save the entire IPSM, decert & all!?
Guest spacecowboy6982 Posted November 1, 2003 Report Posted November 1, 2003 An app that can back-up your sms to your SD card .. and restore them back to the inbox Genius :!:
Guest blewer Posted November 1, 2003 Report Posted November 1, 2003 All I can say is 'Pocket Excell' :)
Guest Matt Kirby Posted November 2, 2003 Report Posted November 2, 2003 (2) A "simple" banking program - maybe an extension of the above. Defining multiple accounts (current/checking acc, credit cards etc), and being able to record payments and receipts on those accounts. This is a great idea - I currently use a similar program on my aging Palm IIIx - it would be great to do that all on my phone. I would attempt myself but my C skills are sadly lacking - anyone fancy taking this one on? You'd get my vote for the prize!
Guest Pagemakers Posted November 2, 2003 Report Posted November 2, 2003 Some kind of full back up to PC via active sync - one that will let you save the entire IPSM, decert & all!? This would surely win the competition hands down? It's must be one of the most wanted features of all time - A FULL phone backup. How about: A T9 text dictionary that NEVER looses the saved words An alarm clock that displays the alarm time on the Today Screen A scrolling news ticker/stock quote ticker for the Today Screen A delete all app for the inbox (emails & sms's)
Guest spacecowboy6982 Posted November 2, 2003 Report Posted November 2, 2003 Yes, yes, yes and hell yes !! especially number 3 :)
Guest chucky.egg Posted November 2, 2003 Report Posted November 2, 2003 A T9 text dictionary that NEVER looses the saved words Good call - maybe MS will produce what we all want: A BUG FIX! While I'm here another couple: (1) Sync utility for Exchange server Public Folders (for less than $1000, which is the cheapest I've seen). (2) A "GF-is-in-a-bad-mood" detector, for when I spend longer on here than I do with her! :)
Guest spider Posted November 3, 2003 Report Posted November 3, 2003 ....word...excel...and other office tools, by which we can both read/write/modify etc etc on BOTH the phone AND PC and which is NOT slow...which is not #%¤?! hard to use...which is NOT totally unusable...like MANY (if not ALL) of them which have today....
Guest JoelRae Posted November 3, 2003 Report Posted November 3, 2003 How about an mp3/wma player that doesn't stick huge gaps between tracks, so mixes sound fine? :-k BTW this is a request, not an offer :)
Guest Posted November 3, 2003 Report Posted November 3, 2003 (2) A "GF-is-in-a-bad-mood" detector, for when I spend longer on here than I do with her! :) That should be easy- a simple random number generator should do the trick! :(
Guest Coucou Posted November 3, 2003 Report Posted November 3, 2003 (2) A "GF-is-in-a-bad-mood" detector, for when I spend longer on here than I do with her! Is a frying pan attack not enough of a warning? :) You have to learn the automated response routine. 10: RECORD LAST TWENTY SECONDS ON LOOP 20: RECOGNISE WHEN RISING INTONATION INDICATES QUESTION 30: EXTRACT KEY WORDS FROM RECORDING 40: RE-INSERT KEY WORDS INTO POSITIVE STATEMENT 50: ANALYSE STATEMENT FOR ANY POTENTIAL FLAWS 60: IF NO FLAWS GOTO 10 70: FLAW FOUND. END PROGRAM. SWITCH ATTENTION TO GF. URGENT! gf: Has my mother called? u: Your mother? No. gf: I went blah blah blah and bought this necklace. u: ... gf: .... u: (realising implicit question) yes dear very nice necklace. gf: you haven't even looked, I hate you. (tears) Well it's not bug free yet...
Guest chucky.egg Posted November 3, 2003 Report Posted November 3, 2003 gf: you haven't even looked, I hate you. (tears) Uncanny! Have you been listening in?
Guest evilminky Posted November 3, 2003 Report Posted November 3, 2003 an alarm that plays a preset song from wmp or just starts wmp playing
Guest K|RK Posted November 5, 2003 Report Posted November 5, 2003 Yeah, an alarm clock that runs Media Player and an mp3 of choice - sounds good to me. What about an alarm clock that when the snooze is hit more than 3 times will automatically phone Work and run a pre-recorded message tellng the boss you're really ill and can't come in today. Obviously there are flaws that need fixing here; the part where you never turn up for work and eventually get sacked.
Guest PsychoDave Posted November 5, 2003 Report Posted November 5, 2003 What about some way to backuprestore reg keys? I know PHM Regedit has the facility to backup but not restore. Reckon this would save me a bit of time after Hard Resets. Unless you know of a way to do it already? Cheers
Guest Myke Posted November 7, 2003 Report Posted November 7, 2003 i really like the alarm clock idea, but i dont think its a good idea to use windows media player. i cant beleive there isnt a really good alarm clock program out there. here are some features it should have: - multiple alarms - alarm notification on homescreen - mp3, wav, or midi customizable alarms - easy preferences (repeat this alarm every tuesday & thurs, etc..) - vibrate on/off extra features: - stop clock - countdown timer :))
Guest Myke Posted November 7, 2003 Report Posted November 7, 2003 i also like my restaurant bill application idea that noone likes... (see other thread)
Guest gpcarreon (MVP) Posted November 8, 2003 Report Posted November 8, 2003 What about an application that can the save phone's cemail.vol to PC then view the date, time, sender and contents of the SMS/MMS message (including attached picture and sound).
Guest Gorskar Posted November 8, 2003 Report Posted November 8, 2003 What about an alarm clock that when the snooze is hit more than 3 times will automatically phone Work and run a pre-recorded message tellng the boss you're really ill and can't come in today. Obviously there are flaws that need fixing here; the part where you never turn up for work and eventually get sacked. LOL :)
Guest Coucou Posted November 8, 2003 Report Posted November 8, 2003 i also like my restaurant bill application idea that noone likes... (see other thread) You might get votes from other Yanks, but on this forum you're outnumbered. Us europeans have a different approach to restaurant bills. I think I saw somewhere that Brits are renowned as the worst tippers...
Guest Pagemakers Posted November 8, 2003 Report Posted November 8, 2003 i really like the alarm clock idea, but i dont think its a good idea to use windows media player. i cant beleive there isnt a really good alarm clock program out there. here are some features it should have: This is the best I've seen. http://www.burroak.on.ca/pta.html
