Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted October 31, 2003 Report Posted October 31, 2003 Worth a shot. My laptop has the above Intel graphics chipset and uses up to 64meg shared system memory. It works on the theory that it donates video memory it isn't using back to the system, and takes more back when it needs it. This is irritating as most games try to be clever and auto detect the amount of graphics memory before allowing the game to run, both C&C Generals and GTA: Vice City do this and detect the graphics card as having the 8meg it normally uses for Windows, and decides that this isn't enough to run the game (even though the gfx chipset is perfectly capable of providing enough memory once its needed). I have spent hours trying to find a work around with this. The games work on this chipset according to Intels website however i can't find anyway of forcing either the games to run or the gfx chipset to take more memory. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions please let me know :) NB: I have tried all the usuals, my laptop is as fully patched and driver'ed up to date as it possibly can be. Cheers
Guest siu99spj Posted November 5, 2003 Report Posted November 5, 2003 The only thing I can think of doing would be to force your laptop to swallow X amount of memory in the BIOS. Not exactly the most user friendly way of doing it but it should work. Though it shows how out of touch I've been, didn't even realise newer laptops could dynamically allocate memory, I've only used the static ones. Ah well, hope it works mono.
