Guest edwrb Posted October 31, 2003 Report Posted October 31, 2003 Help with hard reset Hi when i go to do a hard reset on my amazing smart phone, it does the card found part and then goes to the screen about pressing any key for boot, but then no matter if you press any key or not it goes to a screen with 3 colours (red, green, blue) and it says Canary MV v0.98 in each of the colours box and will not do anything else, I have only had this phone a few days and i'm new to smartphones, please help MB
Guest martin Posted October 31, 2003 Report Posted October 31, 2003 Welcome to MoDaCo edwrb Try pressing the actions key (centre joystick) instead of any key. If that doesn't work then try it with the SD card removed.
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted October 31, 2003 Report Posted October 31, 2003 Welcome to the site :) When you get prompted to press any key you need to press and hold the action button until the screen turns white, then you can release the button. Also it helps if you have an storage card in the phone as this slows the process down of entering the bootloader.
Guest edwrb Posted October 31, 2003 Report Posted October 31, 2003 thanks for the replies, I removed the SD card and now it doesnt search for it, it still goes to that screen as soon as I touch the action key when it is reffering to the boot procedure, i held it for 10 seconds and nothing happened still, same screen, is that supposed to come up as soon as you press the action button.
Guest martin Posted October 31, 2003 Report Posted October 31, 2003 Why the hard reset anyway. Have you just bought the phone from someone ?
Guest edwrb Posted October 31, 2003 Report Posted October 31, 2003 yea I got it second hand, I know the person that had it before and they didnt have it because it was a smartphone to them it was a normal phone it could of been a nokia 5110 and she wouldnt have noticed the difference, the version software is only 1.3 so i'll have to get the update. I've worked out how to do the hard reset, but now i cant find where the end button is that you are supposed to select
Guest martin Posted October 31, 2003 Report Posted October 31, 2003 Hmmm. It works for me with or without the card. As soon as you see 'Press any key to enter bootloader' press and hold down the action button. I should enter the Diag Menu.
Guest edwrb Posted October 31, 2003 Report Posted October 31, 2003 I've got it to do the reset but I can't find the 'end' button that you are supposed to select :? :? Slowly learning
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted October 31, 2003 Report Posted October 31, 2003 With bootloader V0.98 and above there is not and END button, you just have to press and hold the power button to reboot the phone.
Guest martin Posted October 31, 2003 Report Posted October 31, 2003 If you go right twice (right of action button) it should scroll through the menus. I don't know if your bootloader has the end option. Either way, you still have to pull the battery for leave it out for 30 secs before replacing it. Boot the phone up and leave for several minutes to rebuild. This part takes a lot longer than normal bootup.
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted October 31, 2003 Report Posted October 31, 2003 Martin you don't need to pull the battery after a hard reset :( ps looks like we are having a posting comp here :)
Guest edwrb Posted October 31, 2003 Report Posted October 31, 2003 ahh ohk worked it out now. Is it worth while updating the software version?? Will it make a difference to the phone?? Also what do you think is the best task manager/explorer/tweaker for this phone?? Also is there a program for managin your contacts/calander on the phone from your pc without having to use outlook?? Also again :-P Is there a program for generating layouts/themes?? Thanks for all your help.
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted October 31, 2003 Report Posted October 31, 2003 1, Yes but only with updates from your network operator. 2, The best are (and just click on the names) Task Manager and Smart Explorer 3, Not that I'm aware of 4, There is a basic layout manager but as I do not play with home screens etc I'm not the best one to answer sorry
Guest edwrb Posted October 31, 2003 Report Posted October 31, 2003 I have the amazing smart phone, but i'm on Telstra (australian company) will the 'smart' update still work??
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted October 31, 2003 Report Posted October 31, 2003 It will but I would not install it personally. As you are not using the network the phone was designed for technically you do not need to stay with the original operstors update as no warranty exists. The update I would use is the I-Mate (if you use T9) or wait for the new Orange update which will hopefully be released in the next few weeks.
Guest edwrb Posted October 31, 2003 Report Posted October 31, 2003 so aslong as its the same type of phone i can use any of the operators patches?? is there something wrong with the smart update, which makes the i-mate update better?? what can i expect from the new orange update??
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted November 1, 2003 Report Posted November 1, 2003 1, Technically yes 2, As far as I'm aware the SMART update manages to re-SIM lock the phone. 3, No official date has been confirmed yet.
