Haywire GPRS, or dodgy apps ?

I had an odd thing with my emails the other day... using SunnySoft Mail Centre it used up 1.5Mb  trying (and failing) downloading a 72Kb email I had sent myself.

Today I've had a similar experience with Agile Messenger, where it kept going and going (even when I'd killed the app with XBar) and that used over 750Kb in the space of 3 hours today with no activity. Quickreset was the only thing that stopped it!

Then I saw a review of check4mail (here) says that the app downloaded 300kb repeatedly, and not according to the schedule the user had setup.

I don't know that they are all related, but it seems like a bit of a coincidence that GPRS usage goes nuts on all 3.

There was an article on The Register about GPRS billing hacks (here) but I don't know enough about it to judge whether it could be related. Traffic Counter showed the increase in sent/received data so I'm guessing its a red herring.

The problem is these "bugs" (if that's what they are) have cost me loads - 1.5Mb out of bundle last month, and now I've used over half of my current month's bundle in the first 2 days of the month.

I guess this is one reason why the phones are app-locked
