Guest unclelimey Posted November 4, 2003 Report Posted November 4, 2003 hi, this is important so i thought you should know.. piracy is a problem , i agree, and most software companies set up a registration process whereby the game is tied to a certain "smartphone user name" - smart solitaire and rocketelite gold are good examples of this process working to good effect... however, i purchased a cyberplanet game... "space fortress" it had a long winded registration process (for anyone who has not bought a cyberplanet game - you get a long reg code to enter into your phone, then the phone gives you another long code which you have to enter onto the cyberplanet website, you then get a third code which you have to enter onto the phone, finally the game will work) this works all good and well until you get a problem like i had.... my smartphone stopped working and thanks to orange care insurance i got a replacement spv....after re-installing all my games which require reg codes... the cyberplanet game did not work on my replacement handset, i emailed cyberplanet about this asking them for help on this matter.... and to my disgust, this was the reply i had from them... --------------------------------- Hello, Thank you for your email. I understand your problem, but unfortunately the game can only be downloaded on one terminal per purchase. Due to the replacement of your handset and our copyright piracy, I am afraid you have to make another purchase... Sorry for the inconvenience causes. Best Regards, Customer Support Team. ----------------------------------- so , even though i spent 12 dollars plus tax on this game, to play it on my replacement phone, they want me to shell out another 12 dollars!!!!!! i suggest everyone should boycott cyberplanet games until they adopt a similair piracy protection to everyone else.... i have over 50 games on my smartphone and this is the only one that did not work on my replacement handset.... here is a list of cyberplanet games that should be avoided: Space Fortress Dread Dracula Mummy Indian Turquoise AVOID , so that you dont get ripped off !
Guest Simon Desser Posted November 4, 2003 Report Posted November 4, 2003 Cheeky BA**ARDS
Guest blewer Posted November 4, 2003 Report Posted November 4, 2003 That's a rip off. I'm not even going to look at it! Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest rce Posted November 4, 2003 Report Posted November 4, 2003 That's not fair!!!   I wont buy any of their games as long as they use this system.
Guest midnight Posted November 4, 2003 Report Posted November 4, 2003 a case for trading standards methinks, you purchased the game so you own it, you legally have the right to have a copy and theres sod all they can do about it :)
Guest unclelimey Posted November 4, 2003 Report Posted November 4, 2003 yes , i agree with you midnight i think its important to let people who are thinking about upgrading to the new motorola or e200 know that any cyberplanet game they already own will not work on their new phones.. this includes dread dracula which was only released yesterday... something must be done about this.... Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest madu Posted November 4, 2003 Report Posted November 4, 2003 just qute midnight in an email to the buggers. this is a load of...
Guest unclelimey Posted November 4, 2003 Report Posted November 4, 2003 i did.... awaiting reply. Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest MoRFLeZ Posted November 4, 2003 Report Posted November 4, 2003 All I can say is amen and ditto! While I understand they wish to protect their games from privacy, this is hardly the best way to do it! With people upgrading their smartphones this is going to be a huge problem... I certainly wont buy any of the games, until this is sorted!
Guest unclelimey Posted November 5, 2003 Report Posted November 5, 2003 still no reply from them
Guest nixy Posted November 5, 2003 Report Posted November 5, 2003 Just wanted to show our solidarity and support for you mate. We will not even be speaking their name let alone typing their address into our browser whilst such a pathetic and cheeky setup is being adopted by them. I love the way (NOT!!!) that the email reply you got: politely ends .........."Sorry for the inconvenience causes" And being British and proud to have freedom of speech....I would just like to add on a personal note that I think their games are over priced and of poor quality anyway. nixy
Guest Mike Wagstaff Posted November 5, 2003 Report Posted November 5, 2003 Couldn't agree more with all the above comments. That policy is both short-sighted and utterly idiotic.
Guest axe Posted November 5, 2003 Report Posted November 5, 2003 WHAT ??? and just when i was about to buy that dracula game ... this is the 3rd SPV i'm using so I just KNOW there will come a day when I have to reload the software ... NO WAY am I buyig anything off these suckers ... I might even email them about it.
Guest unclelimey Posted November 5, 2003 Report Posted November 5, 2003 the stupid thing about this whole situation is that even if they did give me a new code for my replacement handset.... it would only work on my new handset, and i couldnt give it out to anyone else anyway.... so... not a piracy issue at all really, they probably just see it as a chance to get some more money.... they are gonna have loads of complaints from people who already have some of their games and are gonna upgrade to the new smartphones which are coming out soon still no word from them either ! thanks for all your support here in the forum.... keep the comments coming Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest davy Posted November 5, 2003 Report Posted November 5, 2003 Totally agree that this is unacceptable   I have purchased Mummy and will soon be changing my spv so am watching this thread with interest. unclelimey: did you install to phone or storage card? As with all this company's games the installer did not work so I had to install the cab manually  . The cab however would only install to the phone. I have since manually moved the game to my storage card and it still runs. When I change my phone I will not have to actually reinstall the game so will it still work? davy.

Guest davy Posted November 5, 2003 Report Posted November 5, 2003 unclelimey: Yes I will send them an E-mail. Have you thought about contacting Handango requesting that they place a warning to potential customers of this software? davy.
Guest unclelimey Posted November 5, 2003 Report Posted November 5, 2003 good idea.... will do Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest stuartd Posted November 5, 2003 Report Posted November 5, 2003 I agree that the behaviour of Cyberplanet seems very unfair and that they should provide a new licence key without hassle, and I certainly won't be registering Mummy like I was going to as I'm considering the SPVE200. But, you don't own the software, you have a licence that entitles you to install and use the software as per the terms of the licence agreement that is entered into upon installation, and it sounds like the licence restricts that usage to the 'terminal' that it was originally installed on. As I said, I agree that it's an unfair restriction but when the topic of ownership of software comes up, all any of us actually own with the vast majority of commercial software is a licence to use it.
Guest davy Posted November 6, 2003 Report Posted November 6, 2003 E-mail to Cyberplanet Customer support:- Dear Sir/Madam, I have recently purchased both Mummy and Dread Dracula (for smartphone) from Handango and both games are running fine. I am however alarmed by a post on the MoDaCo forum which effectively states that if I change my handset your games will no longer work. http://smartphone.modaco.com/viewtopic.php...5321&highlight= Clearly this is unacceptable and I would therefore seek reassurance from your Company that I will be able to run these games if I upgrade my handset (which I intend to do in the near future). As I have purchased these games it is not unreasonable to expect that they will still work should I upgrade my phone or have to replace the handset due to a fault. Yours sincerely, and the reply: Hello David, Thank you for your email. You can rest assured that you will be able to get your "replacement" game IF our game is in fault. Just contact us with your registered FIRST and LAST name and the NEW "password" that appears on your handset's screen. Best Regards, Customer Suport Team
