Guest fraser Posted November 4, 2003 Report Posted November 4, 2003 Hey All, Various parts of this have been suggested in other posts. Here's a summary of the features that folk want/need: - Customisable Backlight time linked to profile, e.g. on dock light is always on - When on dock, backlight is linked to monitor power save to turn it off when you aren't at the PC - Game mode, where apps can message the daemon and tell it to turn on the light until finished Currently, each game hacks this by (presumably) storing the current setting and changing it temporarily. This is a bit risky, as two apps might try to do it, knackering the setting if they exit in a different order from what they were started in. A central standard (free) application would be much better, to act as a go-between for the apps and the system backlight control. It isn't all that complicated either, except perhaps the PC screen saver link.
Guest scottt Posted November 24, 2003 Report Posted November 24, 2003 what about a program that makes the light stay on when surfing the net as its a pain in the arse the light switching off all the time even if backlight is set to never - dont think it should be too hard as it can be done on the torch program
Guest fraser Posted November 25, 2003 Report Posted November 25, 2003 Yeah, I'd thought of something like that myself. It should be possible for a background app to determine which application is currently on screen, e.g. PocketIE. You could create a list of apps that have the backlight customised. Provided you set the auto-return-to-homescreen thing, you don't really need to worry about zapping the battery, which is the biggest risk of writing something like this.
