Guest jlayous Posted November 5, 2003 Report Posted November 5, 2003 Hi all, after updating the bootloader of the I-mate. We got a message stating that the upgrade "PASSED". After cold booting the device.... it won't turn on anymore. We were using USBTERM to upgrade via SD card. Does anyone know how to hard reset or at least a way to have the phone turn ON!!!. Thanks :)
Guest nixy Posted November 5, 2003 Report Posted November 5, 2003 If you are stuck maybe reinstalling the i-mate rom from scratch once you have done a hard reset (hold down record key whilst powering on)will jump start it back into life.
Guest jlayous Posted November 5, 2003 Report Posted November 5, 2003 Hello everyone, i tried the hard reset and its still not turning on any idea Regards
Guest nixy Posted November 5, 2003 Report Posted November 5, 2003 Did you reinstall the i-mate rom again after Hard reseting the device??
Guest jlayous Posted November 5, 2003 Report Posted November 5, 2003 well its not turning on at all to reinstall the rom
Guest jlayous Posted November 5, 2003 Report Posted November 5, 2003 its like there is no power at all i tested the charger its working fine. i tried also to connect it to the usb cable and run usbterm again i keep getting "cant open terminal handle" help please regards
Guest martin Posted November 5, 2003 Report Posted November 5, 2003 If the phone refuses to turn on then it sounds like you could have a corrupted or incomplete bootloader. Without the bootloader the phones dead  Errr How's your insurance
Guest jlayous Posted November 5, 2003 Report Posted November 5, 2003 i got the boot loader from another imate identical to the one i have through usbterm and an sd card i dont think that the bootloader is corrupted any idea??
Guest martin Posted November 5, 2003 Report Posted November 5, 2003 When you say the phone is not turning on what exactly do you mean ? When the charger is attached does the LED turn on ? Can you still access the bootloader & Canary screen ?
Guest jlayous Posted November 5, 2003 Report Posted November 5, 2003 when the charger is attached the LED doesnt turn on and i cant access a thing Regards
Guest martin Posted November 5, 2003 Report Posted November 5, 2003 About 9 months ago I did exactly the same thing with an SPV and strangely enough it was while I was transferring a bootloader via SD card from someone elses phone to mine. Luckily for them (and unluckily for me) it was my phone that died  I know what I did though  The phone was working fine after the bootloader transfer but I still had the SD card inserted. When I re-entered the bootloader screen again it recognised the SD files and without thinking I pressed a button to start uploading. ooops I thought and stopped the upload  :x which resulted in no internal phone software. The phone was DEAD. No booting, No charging - Absolutely nothing  Hopefully you have not lost the phones internal software (+bootloader) as I think the phone would then have to be flashed. Fortunately I got my phone replaced under insurance.
Guest jlayous Posted November 5, 2003 Report Posted November 5, 2003 flash! any idea how its done and if it will do the job Regards
Guest martin Posted November 5, 2003 Report Posted November 5, 2003 I think you have to contact a company that can do it. I can't remember what they are called but many people have used them. I'm doing quick search to see if I can find the details. Unless anyone else knows it. While searching, I found this topic which made made me laugh :) (it's not funny really) http://smartphone.modaco.com/viewtopic.php...lash+bootloader
Guest martin Posted November 5, 2003 Report Posted November 5, 2003 jlayous I forgot to ask  Where are you based and how did you purchase your phone ?
Guest jlayous Posted November 5, 2003 Report Posted November 5, 2003 im based in lebanon and i was in dubaii for the gitex and i got it from there i really appreciate what are u doing for help regards
Guest martin Posted November 5, 2003 Report Posted November 5, 2003 Jlayous. Take the battery off Remove the SD card and the SIM. Plug the charger into the mains and the SPV into the charger (without battery/SD card or SIM). I used a single USB/charger cable for this and can still boot the phone. Try booting the phone up and also try getting into bootloader. Any sign of life ? It's just to make sure that its definitely not being caused by something else. If the phone is truly blitzed then it might be worth looking at your warranty with I-Mate.
Guest jlayous Posted November 5, 2003 Report Posted November 5, 2003 what do u mean by a single USB/charger cable is it the same one that came with my imate "i do have the usb cable that u connect the charger to it" Regards
Guest jlayous Posted November 5, 2003 Report Posted November 5, 2003 ok i did it the only thing happen is that the charger led blinked twice red color and thats it

Guest martin Posted November 16, 2005 Report Posted November 16, 2005 If you can get to the Orange screen then you should dbe able to hard reset. 1 Turn phone off. 2 Hold down both soft buttons (black buttons below screen) 3 Press power button once and keep both soft buttons held down. (if nothing happens then press power button again) 4 When the hard reset menu appears press 0
