Guest dshaugney Posted November 5, 2003 Report Posted November 5, 2003 On the motorola website it says the MPX200 is 900/1800/1900, but as far as i know UK uses the 800Mhz carrier, though this was a while ago. I know some carriers are totally 1800 now like T-Mobile. Anyone know if UK is mostly 1800 now, otherwise how can Orange use it? I'm not very technical when it come to this. Thanks in advance.
Guest ranzz Posted November 5, 2003 Report Posted November 5, 2003 None of the networks in the UK are using the 800MHz freq. band. 800MHz is only used in the USA. Orange UK are only using the 1800MHz freq. band.
Guest Matt Kirby Posted November 5, 2003 Report Posted November 5, 2003 T-Mobile (or One2One as it was) and Orange have always used 1800 Mhz (PCN) GSM, and Vodaphone and 02 (Cellnet as was) have always used 900 mhz GSM. There hasn't been a network in the UK that has used 800Mhz GSM. For world mobile frequencies look http://www.celluloco.com/products/customer/pages.php?pageid=18>here.
Guest dshaugney Posted November 5, 2003 Report Posted November 5, 2003 Halleluya! Thank you everyone!
Guest rekiller Posted November 7, 2003 Report Posted November 7, 2003 can somebody tell me, is UNLOCKED at&t MPx200 support 900 band or no ?
Guest dshaugney Posted November 8, 2003 Report Posted November 8, 2003 oh yes, don't worry... the MPX200 is actually Tri-Band, just some websites not being accurate scared me. the mpx supports 900/1800/1900
Guest rekiller Posted November 8, 2003 Report Posted November 8, 2003 Are you sure what AMERICAN AT&T mpx200 after unlocking support 900 band ? I find indormation what all american mpx200 locked and unlocked not support 900 :)(( where is true ? Somebody have unlocked AT&T mpx200? Can you check it for 900 band ?
Guest cortez Posted November 9, 2003 Report Posted November 9, 2003 Unlocked US version of MPX200 is dual band; you have the option to choose either 1800 or 1900.
Guest adamos168 Posted November 9, 2003 Report Posted November 9, 2003 How would u know if its an american mpx200 or a european mpx200? coz im planning to buy the one with the MMS capability. thanks
Guest dshaugney Posted November 9, 2003 Report Posted November 9, 2003 that's what I say...there is no US or European version...that would be very stupid... it would be easier and cheaper for them to make one tri-band version or one dual-band. If they had made two different versions A) people would know by now, it would have been announced a long time ago and :) Motorola would have to, by law, specify it on their web-site. MMS capibility is ROM dependant...Orange have their own custom ROM that they stick on the MPX to allow MMS. I don't think they have MMS in the US (not sure) so AT&T didn't need to include it. When the MPX, finally, comes out here from Orange there will be a few UK roms floating on the net. In the mean time I will use the AT&T. I recently bought one from the US, unlocked. Should be here on Wed. I have an orange sim and an O2 sim I want to use - I will test both and let you guys know. dshaugney
Guest dshaugney Posted November 9, 2003 Report Posted November 9, 2003 posted on mpx200.org forum Quote: "...James, I have used my T-Mobile sim all over Europe, HK, SE Asia, S. Africa, Austraila and very spotty coverage in Latin America. Same sim card ... higher rates not covered in your standard plan. Still all-in-all reasonable."
Guest cortez Posted November 10, 2003 Report Posted November 10, 2003 dshaugney - please let us (or at least me :)) know if you successfully modify the ROM on an ATT version of the MPX. i'm interested to know if a ROM update would enable tri-band and/or MMS support.
