Guest catlas Posted November 5, 2003 Report Posted November 5, 2003 I finally managed to lose my hands free headset yesterday, but it was falling apart anyway so I'm not too bothered. I do tend to use it a lot though (mp3's, divx etc), so I need to replace it asap. I dont wanna get a standard replacement set, as the design sucks, as does the quality. I thought about just buying a 2.5mm jack to 3.5mm socket and using my own headphones, but I'd rather have something with a mic attached. Has anyone got any recommendations for a good one? Also, has anyone got the headset advertised on here? http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/product/2106.htm It says it can answer calls with the button, but its for generic models so I'm not sure if it works with the SPV. They also do an earbud version - if you aren't concerned about sound quality :)
Guest Kallisti Posted November 6, 2003 Report Posted November 6, 2003 The perfect one would be a 2.5mm jack going to a 3.5mm female + a clip mic unit. Then I could just plug my own headphones in. Does anyone know compatibility between our jack and the nokia 2.5mm? Eg, would http://www.skullcandy.com/product.php?prod...cts_id=5&plug=1 do the trick?
Guest mrjuglas Posted November 6, 2003 Report Posted November 6, 2003 I've had a couple of replacements already, unfortunately I haven't found a better one than the original which I get from freedommobiles.co.uk for £14.99 Must remember not to trash or lose this one...
Guest catlas Posted November 6, 2003 Report Posted November 6, 2003 Does anyone know compatibility between our jack and the nokia 2.5mm? Eg, would http://www.skullcandy.com/product.php?prod...cts_id=5&plug=1 do the trick? Thats exactly what I was wondering too. It appears to have the same amount of connectors on the actual jack.... but as they sell one specifically for the nokia, and then a generic 2.5mm one I didnt want to take the risk of buying it to find it was useless. Anyone have a nokia headset they can try out on the SPV??
Guest catlas Posted November 6, 2003 Report Posted November 6, 2003 I haven't found a better one than the original which I get from freedommobiles.co.uk My only reservations about getting another set of those is that the sound quality and dynamic range is *so* bad. I have a hard time hearing the low end frequencies in noisy environments with them, plus mine were literally coming apart at the join of the smaller earbud to the main cable. I use them every day, but I dont think normal wear and tear should manifest itself like that :
Guest gingepie Posted November 20, 2003 Report Posted November 20, 2003 I have tried a nokia headset and it worked! Not sure if the push button answers the call, but now I can watch The Office in peace!
Guest ranzz Posted November 20, 2003 Report Posted November 20, 2003 The number of connectors on the jack may be identical, but it doesn't mean the actuall wires are connected inside the jack, as I learned by trying to listen to stereo (a real stereo check which seperates left and right channels) with a Nokia Dual Headset HDD-1. Nokia does make Stereo headsets, but unfortunately only with Pop Port connections, and not 2.5mm jacks. I too was trying to get a cheaper SPV-LIKE headset but the HDD-1 failed me, although it has 4 connectors (3 black stripes - seperators) it doesn't actually transmit stereo broadcast. ended up buying another original headset and it's not like mine was lost or anything - I needed a 2.5mm jack with 4 connectors to make a DIY car kit / SPV mp3 player.
