Guest howe Posted November 5, 2003 Report Posted November 5, 2003 hi everyone! just got a mio 8380 and am having problems sending mms... my telco is Starhub in singapore and i got the settings from someone using a smartphone... however the 8380 does not seem to be able to send mms from the normal Inbox and requires jMMS... which i can't seem to get to work... my gprs and everything else is working as i can surf thru wap... anyone have any ideas? i get a sending msg till it's almost sent then an error occurs... saying that error sending mms msg help would be greatly appreciated!
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted November 5, 2003 Report Posted November 5, 2003 As I do not have a mio :) one question to ask is, has your operator activated MMS on your account? the reason I ask is in the UK to use MMS you have to ask for it to be enabled.
Guest martin Posted November 5, 2003 Report Posted November 5, 2003 Hello howe I would first try sending MMS in another using your SIM just to make sure that MMS is activated on your account. Then try the following settings :) Create GPRS connection for MMS Description: StarHub MMS Connect to : MMS Connection Access point: shmms JMMS settings MMSC: http://mms.starhubgee.com.sg:8002 Data Connection: StarHub MMS Gateway: WAP 1.0 Gateway IP Address: 10.12.1.80 Port: 9201 Encoding: Binary Let us know if it works OK :(
Guest howe Posted November 6, 2003 Report Posted November 6, 2003 the settings work! and the msg says it's sent but... i found out that the recipient didn't get the mms... any idea why? i'm sure that the recepient's mms is activated...
Guest martin Posted November 6, 2003 Report Posted November 6, 2003 Is the recipient on the same network ? Can you successfully send and recieve a MMS to yourself ? Try sending an MMS to you E-mail addresr. Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest howe Posted November 6, 2003 Report Posted November 6, 2003 when you say email address.. you mean any email addy rite? like yahoo also can?
Guest martin Posted November 6, 2003 Report Posted November 6, 2003 Yep, any E-mail address You can add the E-mail address in the contacts. Create a MMS with a photo attachment. Menu-Send Message Select Add to: Select Contact and click right until the E-mail address appears. I think the network provider must allow this feature but it works on mine.
Guest howe Posted November 6, 2003 Report Posted November 6, 2003 ok... here's the good news... the mms can be seen in my email... so now how?
Guest martin Posted November 6, 2003 Report Posted November 6, 2003 howe It's looking good so far :) OK! Try sending an MMS to yourself. Start with just text only to see if you can send and receive the MMS successfully and if that works try a mix of text, sound & pictures. Bear in mind that networks can have different MMS size limits where some only allow 30K and others allow up to 100K. Keep the MMS small (below 30K) when testing  If you can't send an MMS to a mobile on another network then the two networks in question may not have setup an inter networking MMS agreement between themselves.
Guest howe Posted November 6, 2003 Report Posted November 6, 2003 ok... i attempted to send a text mms to myself but it continuouslly dialled and didn't get pass the dialling... what does this mean? it just keeps "dialing..."
Guest martin Posted November 6, 2003 Report Posted November 6, 2003 It is probably just the GPRS network playing up. Try accessing the quick menu (click power button once) and turn radio off and on. This will change the mobility state in the GPRS serving node and updte the cell location. It might help. MMS requires a good data connection or the MMS transfer will timeout. Are you in an area of good signal ?
Guest howe Posted November 6, 2003 Report Posted November 6, 2003 hmmm... tried that already... but still stuck at the dialing part... reception is quite good in my area so... can't figure out wat's wrong..
Guest martin Posted November 6, 2003 Report Posted November 6, 2003 Can you connect to the internet using Pocket Internet Explorer ? The problem could lack of GPRS resource on your serving cell. There couldbe too many people trying to make calls/connections. Try it a bit later and see if it connects again.
Guest howe Posted November 6, 2003 Report Posted November 6, 2003 yes i can connect to pocket explorer without any problems... seems like the mms is the only giving problems...
Guest martin Posted November 6, 2003 Report Posted November 6, 2003 Very strange :? If I'm right, you did manage to send an MMS to the E-mail account earlier. Have you tried doing that again ? If that still gives dialling problem n there could be a problem with the MMS Centre. Do you have another MMS phone you could try to prove it's still working ?
Guest howe Posted November 6, 2003 Report Posted November 6, 2003 i'll try this after i get some sleep... it's 4am in the morning where i am... and i'm supposed to be in dreamland... i really appreciate the help martin... will try tomorrow or rather later today and post the result again... thanks again!
Guest howe Posted November 7, 2003 Report Posted November 7, 2003 ok... here's the sad truth... i put in my sim on my nk6100 and successfully sent an mms to my sis on another telco... so.... now i really dunno what's the problem...
Guest martin Posted November 7, 2003 Report Posted November 7, 2003 Try deleting ALL the MMS data and recreating it.
Guest howe Posted November 11, 2003 Report Posted November 11, 2003 finally got it working! thanks martin! dunno where the prob was... but the important thing is... IT WORKS!!!!
