Guest Simon Desser Posted November 5, 2003 Report Posted November 5, 2003 A new version on Pocket Quran by "J" is now available:- The complete Holy Quran in Arabic for MS Smartphone 2002 for FREE. Pocket Quran runs natively on MS Smartphone 2002 and does not require Arabic support. The text has full "Tashkeel" and is displayed using large, easily readable letters. Fast scrolling and display. Includes verse numbers. New in V0.94b -------- - added a symbol to indicate "Sujood" positions - goes back to last viewed page when program is restarted - minor fixes to text Pocket Quran is available FREE from Handango
Guest Junaid Posted November 6, 2003 Report Posted November 6, 2003 many thanks. just put this on my fone. timely addition since it's the holy month of Ramadan.
Guest Junaid Posted November 6, 2003 Report Posted November 6, 2003 anyone else who has installed this found that the program keeps turning itself off after a few seconds & returning to Home screen?? (the only way to avoid this is if you keep pressing keys - up, down etc.)
Guest Emad Posted November 7, 2003 Report Posted November 7, 2003 Indeed, great for Ramadan mash'Allah :) I think I'll have a stab at squishing some of my Qu'ranic cds onto my SD card to complement this, hmm..

Guest nixy Posted November 10, 2003 Report Posted November 10, 2003 Is there an English Language version that can be downloaded somewhere. I have wanted to read the Quran for a very long time and to have it available on my phone would be excellent. Thanks nixy
Guest Emad Posted November 10, 2003 Report Posted November 10, 2003 The problem with English translations is that something is always lost - part of the benefits of arabic is that a given word can have a variety of meanings all at the same time.. Suppose it makes for not having to update the book for a while :) You can find plenty of translations in .txt and .pdb format on the palm websites that you can read with mobipocket or a similar reader - I can find one for you if you really like (just got up so feeling bleh :() Failing that, you can point a html grabber at http://www.usc.edu/dept/MSA/quran/ - may be a bit large though. The introductions are a vital part of understanding the text however - otherwise it is v easy to take it out of context.. Good luck - ask if you have any queries
Guest nixy Posted November 11, 2003 Report Posted November 11, 2003 Thanks Emad. Have just been to http://www.usc.edu/dept/MSA/ and its a great starting point. Thanks
Guest Emad Posted November 11, 2003 Report Posted November 11, 2003 No problem nixy. Please bear in mind that books on that site are based around the majority 'Sunni' version of Islaam - always good to keep objective. Additional sites from a sunni viewpoint are www.themodernreligion.com and www.masud.co.uk - these present a traditionalist Sunni view of Islam. Again, feel free to ask if you have any inquiries.
Guest Coucou Posted November 14, 2003 Report Posted November 14, 2003 Just out of interest, and without wanting to spark a religious debate, what was it Hussein did that divided the Muslim world? As I understand it he's regarded very differently by Shias and Sunnis... or is there another reason for the divide?
Guest Emad Posted November 14, 2003 Report Posted November 14, 2003 Heh.. It would take.. A while to expound upon the differences and even then I would be doing it from a 'Sunni' perspective (hey, we're all muslims ). The basis of the schism was the election of Abu Bakr as opposed to Ali as the successor of the Prophet (pbuh), from there the differences grew.. I don't mind answering questions of faith/belief, but I believe it would be unfair for me to expand beyond that (especially as I suck at history ;)). Should be in Britannica :(
Guest Coucou Posted November 14, 2003 Report Posted November 14, 2003 Ok, ta for that. It's interesting to know these things, understanding breeds understanding  I have a different perspective on religious divide from most people as my mother's from Belfast ;)
