Guest gavinsbabe_18 Posted November 6, 2003 Report Posted November 6, 2003 Text 682 or Text NTC is another alternative way of reporting lost/stolen cell phones. Project Text 682 aims to prevent and eventually eliminate the problem of mobile cell phone theft. Through a string of SMS commands, TEXT 682 will enable mobile phone subscribers to prevent anyone from using a stolen or lost mobile phone by blocking the IMEI of the said phone. Once a mobile phone is blocked, it cannot be used anymore even if the SIM card is replaced. Likewise, if the stolen phone is returned to the rightful owner, he/she will be able to automatically unlock the IMEI of the said mobile phone. For SMART/Talk & Text, Globe and Touch Mobile Subscribers REGISTER First step is to register to TEXT 682. Registration is valid for one year. To find out the IMEI of your mobile phone, simply type *#06# or look for it on the printed compliance plate under the battery. To register, simply type REG__ _ and send to 682 BLOCKING THE PHONE You must block your phone as soon as you learn it is lost or stolen. You may use any GSM phone to BLOCK a cellular phone. To block phone, simply type BLOCK__ and send to 682. UNBLOCKING THE PHONE You may use any GSM phone to unblock a blocked cellular phone. To unblock phone, simply type UNBLOCK__ and send to 682. UNDOING THE REGISTRATION OF THE PHONE You must use the registered cellular phone that you wish to unregister. To unregister, simply type UNREG__ and send to 682. CHANGING THE PIN CODE You must use the registered cellular phone to change the pin code. To change pin code, simply type PIN__ and send to 682. HELP MENU For help, simply type HELP and send to 682. FOR SUN CELLULAR SUBSCRIBERS The Text 682 service is found under Sun Cellular Emergency sub-menu. To reach the said sub-menu, enter The Mall, select Post Office, then select Public Service, then select Government, and then you will find the TEXT 682 service. There are six options found under the Text 682 service: Register, Block, Unblock, Unregister, Change PIN, and FAQS. NOTE: All completed transactions are worth PhP 5.00 ---heard of celnapped? pinapatubos na lng yun cel, i watched it frm a program sa dos though that was a long time ago.
Guest pyke Posted November 6, 2003 Report Posted November 6, 2003 i heard of this once in the news.ang drawback lang sa pagkakaintindi ko is,let say, galit ako sa isang tao.without him knowing it,gawin ko yung procedure sa phone niya.then using another number,i-declare ko na nawala ko yung phone.panu kaya yun?alam mo naman ang ibang pinoy, manghilig mangsabotahe ng kapwa.
Guest amo Posted November 6, 2003 Report Posted November 6, 2003 This sounds like a great feature that would deteriorate motivation for potential theft of phones - I know we have an IMEI blocking service in the UK but if we could have something like this it'd work so much better
Guest elr Posted November 6, 2003 Report Posted November 6, 2003 i heard of this once in the news.ang drawback lang sa pagkakaintindi ko is,let say, galit ako sa isang tao.without him knowing it,gawin ko yung procedure sa phone niya.then using another number,i-declare ko na nawala ko yung phone.panu kaya yun?alam mo naman ang ibang pinoy, manghilig mangsabotahe ng kapwa. But before you can do that, you have get his IMEI and use his phone to register. Do you think pahihiram sayo ng kagalit mo yung phone nya? :) (hey! DIEHARD na ako!!! :( )
Guest pyke Posted November 6, 2003 Report Posted November 6, 2003 eh,yun nga lang.u have to get his imei.eh *#06 lang din naman yun,di ba?
Guest randy Posted November 6, 2003 Report Posted November 6, 2003 may nag-try na ba nito? totoo ba to? wala kasi sa website ng NTC eh.
Guest gavinsbabe_18 Posted November 6, 2003 Report Posted November 6, 2003 yup! nothing happen actually, i already register my phone and block it at the same time. actually im hoping some1 from NTC SAP user who can attest this one.
Guest gavinsbabe_18 Posted November 6, 2003 Report Posted November 6, 2003 guys sori, matagal lang magreply yung 682, but im still on d process of registering pa. but i checked din kc yung The Mall of SunCel wala nman yung service as indicated above so i thought it was really a hoax.
Guest chosenembryo Posted November 6, 2003 Report Posted November 6, 2003 I think that this is true! look here if you doubt about it!... http://www.ntc.gov.ph/ :)
Guest elr Posted November 7, 2003 Report Posted November 7, 2003 Yes I've tried it and it's working... :)
Guest the_wanderer Posted November 7, 2003 Report Posted November 7, 2003 Hi everyone, medyo di na rin ganon ka-reliable to kasi sa sobrang katalinuhan ng pinoy (kahit wala na sa lugar) kayang baguhin ung IMEI ng isang phone using a software, basta meron k lang cash one-click lang. napanood ko n tong ginawa sa mission x ni mon tulfo. pero nevertheless at least my first line of defense tayo..hehehe..pero ang pinakamahala p rin eh mag-ingat n lng tyo sa mga suspicious characters n nakapaligid sa atin.. God bless to everyone... :) :( :D
Guest randy Posted November 7, 2003 Report Posted November 7, 2003 tnx chosen. it's now on their website. here's the URL http://www.ntc.gov.ph/announcements/text682.htm
Guest gpcarreon (MVP) Posted November 7, 2003 Report Posted November 7, 2003 @gavinsbabe and chosen thanks for the info. :)
Guest sweetyls Posted November 7, 2003 Report Posted November 7, 2003 hmmm... parang ok 'to a. but serious professional celnappers/cel-thieves would probably have a way around this one.
Guest mariolouis Posted November 8, 2003 Report Posted November 8, 2003 not on our sapsap! ..at least not at the moment!
Guest mlkanapi Posted November 8, 2003 Report Posted November 8, 2003 I already registered but I wonder if it still would work if the SIM card ergo, the number is changed right away?
Guest mariolouis Posted November 9, 2003 Report Posted November 9, 2003 @doc mlkanapi i think the protection is handset-based and not the sim card/network. ang maganda dito, maski ano nang operator ibo-block na agad yung phone. yung dati kasi, pag sa smart nakaregister yung phone (imei), bili ka lang ng globe, pwede na ulit. iniisip ko lang na problema eh kung yung mga second hand units kahit legal, pwedeng i-block nung nagbenta. kaya dapat maingat sa pagbibili ng mga second hand units. dapat pagkabili mo, i-unregister mo sya tas i-register mo ng panibago.
Guest mlkanapi Posted November 9, 2003 Report Posted November 9, 2003 @ ml, I hope it works that way. I was just wondering why the phone number is what is used in the process of requesting for the activation of the blocking procedure. Maybe it's just to identify the originator of the request and will still work even if the telephone number has been changed by simply changing the SIM card. :!:
Guest sonborj Posted November 10, 2003 Report Posted November 10, 2003 @elr can you attest more to this .... i mean if its really working?
Guest dr_chikito Posted November 10, 2003 Report Posted November 10, 2003 i think what's best is to register your cellphone to the NTC antitheft service using your spare simcard or your close friends' simcard so that eventually when "if" your cellphone gets stolen with your simcard in it, the thief wouldn't be able to unreg your phone thru NTC (if he's diligent enough to do so)... just my 0.02
Guest elr Posted November 11, 2003 Report Posted November 11, 2003 @ sonborj Well, when i said it's working, i meant the registration process only but i didnt try the block/unblock features yet. @ dr_chikito you don't have to use other simcard. even they got the simcard you used for registration, they still have to know the PINCODE you used to unregister it.
Guest mariolouis Posted November 11, 2003 Report Posted November 11, 2003 i understand it is stated in the NTC's website that you can use other cellphone to enable blocking/unblocking (naturalmente!). kakatakot lang subukan kung gumagana kasi baka matagal o baka hindi nila mai-unblock.
Guest elr Posted November 11, 2003 Report Posted November 11, 2003 yun nga iniisip ko kaya ayaw ko subukan yung block/unblock.
