Nov. 05, 2003 If you're planning to be in Madrid, Spain next week, be sure to visit the 10th World Congress and Exhibition on Intelligent Transport Systems and Services (ITS), where you can see a demonstration of Webraska's SmartZone Navigation technology running on a Windows Mobile powered smartphone. Webraska says the smartphone version of SmartZone Navigation has already received significant interest from multiple carriers in advance of upcoming commercial launches. Webraska will be performing live navigation demos, allowing visitors to see the technology in action. Webraska says its SmartZone products are based on a patented IbDN (Internet-based Distributed Navigation) technology, which enables dynamic extraction of cartographic corridors from remote servers and high-speed transmission to mobile or embedded devices over cellular networks, the company said. The company says optimized mapping corridors and high compression techniques are used to enable data download to remote terminals within seconds; and GPS and voice enabled driving directions are initiated as soon as the download starts, so the connection can be dropped once data transfer is completed. A SmartZone Navigation software development kit (SDK) is available for developing SmartZone applications. According to Webraska, the SDK consists of a set of building blocks with which to craft turn-by-turn navigation services, compliant with virtually any in-vehicle terminals. The SDK is available in C++ and Java for OSGi platforms and supports Windows CE as well as several other embedded OSes. According to Webraska, the SDK has been used to test or implement navigation applications by the following companies: General Motors On Star (US), Delphi (US), Acunia (Belgium), On Star Europe, Isotrak(UK), Fiamm (Italy), SAIC (US), Groeneveld (The Netherlands), and others.
