Guest chigwa Posted November 7, 2003 Report Posted November 7, 2003 Why has the following url been redirected to orange WAP site - http://spv.orange-today.co.uk the same applies for the PDA prefix? anyone any ideas??
Guest cyrilthefish Posted November 7, 2003 Report Posted November 7, 2003 I get this if i try to access the default orange today page :cry:orange-today.jpg
Guest martin Posted November 7, 2003 Report Posted November 7, 2003 At last :) 'Where's my nearest' now works for the SPV in the form of 'Find things nearby'. Been playing with it and its quite good. You need to use the SPV Internet Connection http://spv.orange-today.co.uk To access Orangeworld using the WAP APN Set Internet connection=Orangewap Access http://spv.orange-today.co.uk or http://wap.orange.co.uk Make sure that IE is not set to 'WAP Network' only. cyrilthefish. I take it you don't have an Orange SIM ?
Guest Jasonkruys Posted November 7, 2003 Report Posted November 7, 2003 Thats what I get cyril if I try to access it on the pass-through connection. Is that when u do? Anyone know how to fix it? :?
Guest martin Posted November 7, 2003 Report Posted November 7, 2003 Looks like you can't access Orangeworld from outside the Orange network :)
Guest cyrilthefish Posted November 7, 2003 Report Posted November 7, 2003 oh yes, just tried it and it works via GRPS. didn't work via passthrough Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest spacecowboy6982 Posted November 8, 2003 Report Posted November 8, 2003 I get this if i try to access the default orange today page  Why the hell am I getting this - its pathetic !! I've not changed my settings since I got the phone last year...aaargh !
Guest cybercamel Posted November 8, 2003 Report Posted November 8, 2003 So let me get this straight, this is not a new Home page, but the Orange WAP site! Where's the old one gone, this is rubbish. It say's that my personalised settings will be added to the site in a few days, so I guess it's permanent! In the meantime it's been a few days and no personal settings :)
Guest hecatae Posted November 9, 2003 Report Posted November 9, 2003 Glad to know I'm not the only one having problems.
Guest martin Posted November 9, 2003 Report Posted November 9, 2003 It looks like the SPV is included in Orangeworld (the NEW Orange homepage). I've haven't looked at much of it but I did notice the Video streaming files and I've downloaded a couple of ringtones. I definately think 'Find things nearby' is good and I might use that. What I don't like are the layout (boring) and the speed (slow). I'm gonna try it over the next few days and see how it goes. I suspect the old SPV site will no longer be maintained :)
Guest statscat Posted November 9, 2003 Report Posted November 9, 2003 I miss the accesskey links, that allowed you to hit number "2" on your keypad and it was the same as hitting the lin with "2" next to it. That definately made navigation a nice experience as you could memorise key clicks to your favourite places, Do you find the pages jumps as it loads the images ? Its a bit disconcerting at first, is this because there are no size attributes in the image tag so IE doesn't know how big to make the space ? I would defintealy prefer the page to stop jumping as it makes navigating more difficult. I am also wondering how much the little arrow images (comig in from the sides etc) will effect my gprs bill.
Guest spacecowboy6982 Posted November 9, 2003 Report Posted November 9, 2003 "Whats New" - "Orange World" This is most definatly WAP - the picture quality is something awful. The plus side of things is the ability to easily move up and down the page :) spacecowboy
Guest flyswat Posted November 9, 2003 Report Posted November 9, 2003 I know this post should be in the help section but as it's related to the earlier posts I have put it here. When I use the new Orangeworld WAP page, it recognises my phone as a Nokia 7650? Is this the same for everyone else? Also, I note that, other SPV owners have managed to get the 'things near you' section on the WAP page to work. How? I get the message 'your request for a service could not be fulfilled. Please try again...etc etc'. In IE if I untick the 'automatically detect settings' and change the select network from WAP Network which it's on, to The Internet, I get the Orange page saying the service is not available on my phone! Can anyone answer these questions. ps. 1. I am on Orange. 2. In data connections, Internet connection is set to Orange GRPS and WAP connection is Orange WAP. Thanks flyswat :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?:
Guest martin Posted November 9, 2003 Report Posted November 9, 2003 flyswat If you have webwapselect set it back to SPV. Set IE to 'Select network: The Internet' Access http://wap.orange.co.uk (not wsp) That should do it :) Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest flyswat Posted November 9, 2003 Report Posted November 9, 2003 Martin, Thanks for your response. I changed the IE settings to show 'select network: the internet' and I unticked the box detect settings, so that it would only connect via ORANGE GPRS, not ORANGE WAP. I don't use webwapselect. However, I still get the same results. I deleted the temp internet files so it wouldn't pick up old pages. When i go to properties on the orange home page, it is recognised as a http page and not wsp. My phone is still recognised by the wap/web site as being a nokia 7650 and the 'find things near' section of the orange pages just says my phone isn't supported? Any other ideas? My phone is the E100 with no updates/major changes. Could it be that your phone has updates/modifications of any sort? Thanks for your help. flyswat     :?: :?: :?: :?:
Guest statscat Posted November 9, 2003 Report Posted November 9, 2003 Had you previouslty visited the site with your sim in a 7650 ? Are you using IE or another browser. Its likely thay are using some form of browser detection and for some reason they are seeing your SPV as a 7650. You can still text 2473 free of charge, let them know you problem (its an orange number), but make sure you emphasise that the portal detects your phone incorrectly.
Guest flyswat Posted November 9, 2003 Report Posted November 9, 2003 thanks for the quick response. No i have not used my SIM in another phone let alone a Nokia 7650. I thought that IE was the only browser you could use on a smartphone? I'll text Orange, although from past experience of contacting orange, they do not usually give me the correct answer to my problems/questions!! flyswat
Guest statscat Posted November 9, 2003 Report Posted November 9, 2003 Hi again, how do you know its detecting you as a 7650 ? Which areas (or channels as they are called) is it happening to you on ? I get SPV help when I go to "you and orange" what do you see ?
Guest flyswat Posted November 9, 2003 Report Posted November 9, 2003 When i go to the same section (you and orange), I get - 'get more from you 7650' and a really naff picture of the call buttons from a 7650!!! AAARRRGGGGHHHH!! (sorry, it's a little bit thrustrating). Somebody must know what's gone wrong!! Ta. flyswat
Guest martin Posted November 9, 2003 Report Posted November 9, 2003 Are you sure you've never loaded the webwapselect program and selected WAP as this changes the header ID to Nokia 7650. It was used to get into the WAP sites that rejected the SPV.
Guest flyswat Posted November 9, 2003 Report Posted November 9, 2003 Martin, That's interesting you mention that. I did have the program installed a while back, but then removed it as i didn't have any use for it. I didn't know it made any changes. Any idea how i can resolve this?
Guest martin Posted November 9, 2003 Report Posted November 9, 2003 I just tried changing webwapselect to WAP and got the same problem you have - accessing as Nokia 7650. You need to go to www.monolithix.org and download the program again. When you select SPV it will update the registry and change it back to normal.
Guest flyswat Posted November 9, 2003 Report Posted November 9, 2003 It worked!! Wahooooo. That was driving me up the wall. Thanks for everyones help. flyswat
