Guest kingdom master Posted November 10, 2003 Report Posted November 10, 2003 i was at a meeting earlier today, which i cant give details of, but what i couldnt resist telling u is, a 400mhz smartphone is planned forl ate next year and the menufacturer wants ms to take it on. ;-) kingdom
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted November 10, 2003 Report Posted November 10, 2003 and the menufacturer wants ms to take it on It's VERY unlikely (read impossible) that any Smartphone would have been developed without MS' full involvement from the start. It is of course quite possible that we'll see a 400MHz Smartphone next year, assuming power issues can be resolved. P
Guest midnight Posted November 10, 2003 Report Posted November 10, 2003 hell yeh, spv/e100 can only just manage 3 days and thats with 132mhz processors :) however, integrate the directx battery saving capabilities from notebooks and it just may be possible (it lowers the cpu speed depending on usage, so can run at 100mhz when idle, or use the full 400mhz if apps/games need it) but like Paul said, MS MUST be involved from the very start as theres set requirements for the hardware as governed by the MS Software
Guest lutzh Posted November 10, 2003 Report Posted November 10, 2003 wow- that will give me the chance to run- let me think- ... photoshop on my phone????????? nice to hear and see that processor war now comes to a smartphone near you. question is: what for? like the pre posters say: there are definitly things between high speed processors and smartphone with the technics we have today. recharging of battery twice a day is one of them.... but thanks for sharing this info with us! cheers, lutz
Guest kingdom master Posted November 10, 2003 Report Posted November 10, 2003 EXACTLY what i voiced when playing with the unit. i said ms would wana be there from scratch. the unit was running a system i hadnt seen before, i can only losely gage it on symbian. however they did say they wanted a ms unit eventually. it had camera, with video function, bluetooth data only at the moment. full internet and some great games one was a racing game which similafr to micro machines. it wasnt flip and had an addon for keyboard. more later;-)
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted November 10, 2003 Report Posted November 10, 2003 Ah right, so it wasn't ACTUALLY a Smartphone... P
Guest midnight Posted November 10, 2003 Report Posted November 10, 2003 still, interesting, now if only we can persuade them to release it for windows mobile (taking into account the ms hardware requirements) this kind of sounds similar to what Maxon where showing at one point, which is supposed to launch with a 300mhz processor, the os was ce.net based and ran something called nucleus operating system.
Guest kingdom master Posted November 10, 2003 Report Posted November 10, 2003 yes paul it was a smartphone, it had same capabilities as the ms phones and p900, just u had a different operating system. this unit would be superb with ms operating system. they also mentioned some details of a graphics chip and upgrade possibilities for the unit. my thoughts are they will use this unit to show firms what they can do. then try for ms partnership with there first public release of this unit. im really saying so much than u should. oppss, lol
Guest stu_lowe2003 Posted November 10, 2003 Report Posted November 10, 2003 yes paul it was a smartphone I agree, smartphone is a general term for the new crop of multimedia phones. Just cos microsoft called there operating system that doesn't mean that the term only refers to MS devices. If this were the case then I would have 'Glass faced, opening light inlets' in all the rooms of my house now. As my windows are not microsoft branded :) Stu
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted November 11, 2003 Report Posted November 11, 2003 Ah, so it's a smartphone or a SmartPhone, but not a Smartphone, and you have windows in your house not Windows. ;-) P
Guest Gorskar Posted November 11, 2003 Report Posted November 11, 2003 I have windows and Windows in my house so perhaps thats a bad example. In my car i only have windows unless I'm inside with my phone in my pocket in which case i have Windows in my car also.
