Guest Paul [MVP] Posted November 10, 2003 Report Posted November 10, 2003 Today, Microsoft, Verizon Wireless and Samsung announced the US availability of the first Smartphone with Windows Mobile software for CDMA networks in North America-- the Samsung SCH-i600. This also marks the first availability of a Microsoft Windows Mobile-based smartphone to more than 34.6 million CDMA customers that Verizon Wireless currently serves (the largest wireless voice and data network in the USA). Two of the top 3 handset makers in the world (Samsung and Motorola) are now shipping exciting phones with Windows Mobile software! Check out the full Press Release at the Windows Mobile Virtual Press Center. The Samsung SCH-i600 will be available through Verizon Wireless stores and at www.verizonwireless.com for $399 (US) after a $100 instant rebate, with a two-year agreement on a calling plan of $39.99 or greater.
Guest kyrkesmith Posted November 10, 2003 Report Posted November 10, 2003 I do hope the i600 is a success, and Samsung start making GSM Smartphones. Personally, I find Samsung's clam-shell's the most attractive out of all the manufacturers (although saying that, the i600 doesn't look great).
Guest nickcornaglia Posted November 10, 2003 Report Posted November 10, 2003 Just got mine TODAY! A day earlier than expected. Quickly....it's alot nicer than I thought. Metal feel to it. Nice buttons. Not cheap looking at all. Tons of free software on the SD. Clearvue Suite, Links, IA Album...more. EDIT: They seem to be shareware unless there is a code in the box I cant find :( Internet 1xRTT is super fast. Screen is nice and bright. Bit of a screen effect outdoors but I can still see it well. I'm at work but I'll post a full review unless someone beats me to it. I'm back!!!! :)
Guest Sarc Posted November 10, 2003 Report Posted November 10, 2003 I wonder if it really has the 200Mhz processor that I've seen a few write ups state it has? It seems everyone wanted/hoped the MPx200 would have a 200Mhz processor but it came out with a 132Mhz chip. Would be interesting to know for sure.

Guest nickcornaglia Posted November 11, 2003 Report Posted November 11, 2003 Okay...this will be a quickie (for me that could still be pages long) but I'll follow up with more. I thought I would post some quick impressions. As stated above the phone is alot nicer than I thought. It's still a bit big compared to other smartphones released prior to this phone (all of them) but it's not that bad at all.DSCN0132.JPGDSCN0140.JPGDSCN0148.JPGDSCN0143.JPGDSCN0153.JPGDSCN0154.JPGDSCN0159.JPGDSCN0157.JPGDSCN0156.JPGDSCN0138.JPG
Guest nickcornaglia Posted November 11, 2003 Report Posted November 11, 2003 Interesting Plugins on the phone. First note that the author is DAT Software. - The CallInProgress plugin shows the CallerID Name as well. Has that always been true? I've never noticed. There are plugins listed below...I dont yet know what they do. Prog Plugin? OTA Plugin? ERI Plugin? E911 Plugin? Data Info Plugin - Shows graphical TX & RX bars when on a data call. Cool. TTY_DFMode plugin? <?xml version="1.0"?> <home> <author>DAT Group</author> <contacturl>http://www.datgroup.com/</contacturl> <title lang="0x0409">VZW Full layout</title> <title lang="0x0809">VZW Full layout</title> <title lang="0x040c">Disposition pleine VZW </title> <title lang="0x0407">VZW Volles Layout</title> <title lang="0x0410">Configurazione piena VZW </title> <title lang="0x0816">Plano cheio VZW </title> <title lang="0x040a">Diseño lleno VZW </title> <version>1.00.0001</version> <default font-face="nina" font-size="14" font-weight="bold" padding-left="4" padding-right="4" bgcolor="transparent" fgcolor="COLOR_HOMETEXT" padding-top="2" b-border-color="COLOR_HOMERULE" b-border-width="1"> <format state="selected" fgcolor="COLOR_HOMEHIGHLIGHTTEXT"/> </default> <background bgimage="vzw_home.jpg" valign="bottom"/> <scheme> <color name="COLOR_WINDOW" value="#FFFFFF"/> <color name="COLOR_STATIC" value="#FFFFFF"/> <color name="COLOR_STATICTEXT" value="#000000"/> <color name="COLOR_HIGHLIGHT" value="#FA1B1B"/> <color name="COLOR_HIGHLIGHTTEXT" value="#FFFFFF"/> <color name="COLOR_MENU" value="#E9E8F4"/> <color name="COLOR_MENUTEXT" value="#000000"/> <color name="COLOR_GRAYTEXT" value="#999999"/> <color name="COLOR_GRADLEFT" value="#FFFFFF"/> <color name="COLOR_GRADRIGHT" value="#DFE8F4"/> <color name="COLOR_INTGRADLEFT" value="#FFFFFF"/> <color name="COLOR_INTGRADRIGHT" value="#BACFE8"/> <color name="COLOR_TRAYGRADLEFT" value="#000000"/> <color name="COLOR_TRAYGRADRIGHT" value="#000000"/> <color name="COLOR_HIGHGRADLEFT" value="#FA1B1B"/> <color name="COLOR_HIGHGRADRIGHT" value="#FA1B1B"/> <color name="COLOR_WINDOWFRAME" value="#000000"/> <color name="COLOR_BTNFACE" value="#FA1B1B"/> <color name="COLOR_BTNTEXT" value="#000000"/> <color name="COLOR_SCROLLBAR" value="#E9E8F4"/> <color name="COLOR_HOMETEXT" value="#000000"/> <color name="COLOR_HOMERULE" value="#999999"/> <color name="COLOR_HOMEHIGHLIGHT" value="#FA1B1B"/> <color name="COLOR_HOMEHIGHLIGHTTEXT" value="#FFFFFF"/> <color name="COLOR_alertWINDOW" value="#FFFFFF"/> <color name="COLOR_alertTITLE" value="#FA1B1B"/> <color name="COLOR_alertRULE" value="#999999"/> </scheme> <!--Icon bar: standard plugin--> <plugin clsid="{837FC251-FE69-43ad-84E0-EBCEDEBA0884}" name="iconbar" height="22"> <iconbar fgcolor="COLOR_TRAYTEXT"/> <background gradient="title" bgcolor="COLOR_TRAYGRADLEFT" b-border-color="COLOR_WINDOWFRAME" b-border-width="1"/> </plugin> <!--MRU list: using small icons--> <plugin clsid="{79EFB752-CB70-446d-B317-499723482B3D}" name="startmru" height="22"> <mru y="1" icon-size="16"/> </plugin> <!--Show the network service provider and the time--> <plugin clsid="{E09043DF-510E-4841-B652-388316977A7A}" name="carrier" height="20"> <label> <text><carrier/></text> </label> <clock> <time halign="right"/> </clock> </plugin> <!-- prog plugin! Guest Paul [MVP] Posted November 11, 2003 Report Posted November 11, 2003 It IS? Have Verizon provided a way to unlock it? That's incredible! Looks very cool tho man... P
Guest nickcornaglia Posted November 11, 2003 Report Posted November 11, 2003 No read the fine print....APPLICATION LOCKED :cry: They are supposed to have a support section online this month. Maybe that will provide an unlocking method. -Nick
