Guest smeg36 Posted November 10, 2003 Report Posted November 10, 2003 As the subject title says, I am a complete noob to smartphones. I just started to look into them a couple days ago when I saw that Amazon has the Motorolla MPx200 for $130. The problem with this deal is that I am going to be moving in December, and where I am moving to doesn't have AT&T service. I am thinking I like T-Mobile's service the best, but I really don't know for sure, so any suggestions as to what carrier I should get in the US? T-Mobile doesn't currently have a smartphone though, so I have been looking on ebay for unlocked smartphones. Does anyone have suggestions of other places I can get a good, cheap (cheap being the key word, I already have a great PPC) smartphone? I really like the look of the SPV's. Anything else I should know before buying? Any other great suggestions? Thanks for any help you guys can offer.
Guest nickcornaglia Posted November 11, 2003 Report Posted November 11, 2003 You can buy the MPx200 and get it SIM unlocked to use on any US GSM Carrier, including T-Mobile. I have used unlocked SPVs and Mitacs in the past under TMobile with no problems at all....other than T-Mobiles Reception in my area. Now, I am using a Samsung i600 Smartphone under Verizon with no problems at all! Good Luck.
Guest smeg36 Posted November 11, 2003 Report Posted November 11, 2003 I am probably going to be getting an unlocked SPV from someone on this site. I am thinking I like T-Mobile because their internet plans are better and cheaper, but I may be wrong about this. My choices where I am going to be moving are T-Mobile and Verizon. Which one would you suggest I get? Also, after I have the phone, do I just go to them and sign up, and just ask for a SIM card? Thanks for your help!
Guest nickcornaglia Posted November 11, 2003 Report Posted November 11, 2003 You can not use the SPV with Verizon as it's a GSM phone and Verizon is CDMA. SO if T-Mobile is good in the area you are moving to....Start a plan with T-Mobile. Tell them you have a phone already and just need the SIM. Pop the SIM into the phone. Then head over to the Articles Section of this site and look under the GPRS Setting repository fo the settings for TMobile.
Guest smeg36 Posted November 11, 2003 Report Posted November 11, 2003 Man this site is awsome! Thanks for the reply. So much I still have to learn.
Guest nickcornaglia Posted November 11, 2003 Report Posted November 11, 2003 We've all been there. Welcome to the site and the wonderful world of smartphones!
