Guest muff Posted November 10, 2003 Report Posted November 10, 2003 It's one of those programs you either love, or dont care about at all I'm submitting this, as there is a lot of talk about backlight atm - and though I was going to extend it, I'm busy working on games at the moment, so thought I'd release as is Name Backlight Toggle Author muff What is it? It's a simple little program (and tiny) that just toggles the backlight timer between 5 secs and always on - this means that you can quickly change the setting, and is great when linked under something like XBar or even a speed dial What are the requirements? erm, a Smartphone? Screenshot N/A Download bltoggle.CABbltoggle_10.CAB
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted November 10, 2003 Report Posted November 10, 2003 Nice one muff! :) Out of interest, what did you plan to add to it? P
Guest muff Posted November 10, 2003 Report Posted November 10, 2003 a suggested partner program was one that allowed you to set the lower time limit, rather than the default 5 seconds I have coded in personally I'm quite happy with it as it is, but if there is sufficient demand for the partner program, then I'll take a look when I get some time
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted November 10, 2003 Report Posted November 10, 2003 Can you have it time out immediately? Basically a fix for the annoying 'phone lights up at random in the night while on charge' bug? ;-) P
Guest muff Posted November 10, 2003 Report Posted November 10, 2003 it can be set to zero, but you get a really nasty flicker that looks like the phone is faulty :/ this is because it does fullbright, then halfbright, then off in 3 successive refreshes and in general the shorter u set it, the less practical it becomes for actual usage so it wouldn't solve the charging bug, it would make u think that the phone was generating lightning or suffering a short :/ I can pm u copy if you really want to see what I mean
Guest fozzie Posted November 23, 2003 Report Posted November 23, 2003 Muff, Any chance of doing a version that switches between 'Never' & '10 secs' please? [-o< Thanks.
Guest FrankyG Posted December 3, 2003 Report Posted December 3, 2003 Muff, Any chance of doing a version that switches between 'Never' & '10 secs' please? Â [-o< Â Thanks.I would second that....10 or even 15 secs makes it more useable.
Guest FrankyG Posted December 4, 2003 Report Posted December 4, 2003 Does it have to be installed on the phone? I installed to Card and it doesn't work for me  Just gonna try a re-boot to see if that helps.. [EDIT] err..after a re-boot; the backlight won't go off!! MUFF... :?: After checking the settings in power management, the toggle is actually changing the setting but it's not being applied to the phone. More, it's actually changing between 5secs and Turn Off Backlight...muff any guidance here? Not doing what it says on the tin
Guest muff Posted December 5, 2003 Report Posted December 5, 2003 at the moment the code toggles the registry value between 5,000 (5 seconds) and 99,999 (99.999 seconds - always on) personally I install the program to the phone - it's tiny (7k), so we're not eating the phones precious resources too much  once you have toggled the value, sometimes you need to press a key on the phone for it to start using the new value (depends on wether you use my installation shortcut or create your own with something like XBar) due to when it was coded + released it was only tested on SPV + E100 - so if you have a different phone and it's behaving strange let me know - I can't promise anything, but we can at least look at it I'll see if I can get a 10 seconds version made for you guys today tho [uPDATE] a CAB with a 10 second version is now also attached to the first post in the topic [/uPDATE] muff
Guest gpcarreon (MVP) Posted December 5, 2003 Report Posted December 5, 2003 tnx muff. ill give this a try.

Guest katan Posted February 6, 2004 Report Posted February 6, 2004 was just looking for anything that would make Media Player backlight always on while playing video cuz it p***es me off toggling the volume just to keep the backlight ON. well, ill try this one. =)
Guest lutzh Posted February 6, 2004 Report Posted February 6, 2004 thx buddy, nice tool. i always hated the fact that in messenger conversations the backlight goes off and doesnt come up again if the conversation partner answers. now i can simply switch on the backlight as long as i chat... cheers, lutz
Guest katan Posted February 7, 2004 Report Posted February 7, 2004 have installed backlight toggle but it just switches on 10sec/1min backlight ON status. still cant watch the whole movie without toggling the volume (Media Player). am i doing anything wrong here? do i need to tweak some settings first? ---------- K T N
Guest joolsca Posted February 8, 2004 Report Posted February 8, 2004 Any of you guys tried a program called Torch? It keeps the backlight on until you quit it.torch.rar
Guest beersoft Posted February 8, 2004 Report Posted February 8, 2004 Hh Ho It doesn't work on the good old mpx, for some random reason it sets the backlight timeout to 10 seconds or off. which is a bit of a pain the samething happens with pocketmpv, that sets the backlight timeout to 10 seconds when it quits as well it must be the other bug everyone was looking for in the phone later Owen
Guest katan Posted February 8, 2004 Report Posted February 8, 2004 just downloaded torch, still my backlight turns off... ---------- K T N
