Guest bapp336 Posted November 11, 2003 Report Posted November 11, 2003 Morning Fello Forum-ers! A quickie here! Should I update my e100 to 1.6 from 1.5? Is it beneficial in any way and if so where can I obtain said Update?? :!: Don`t Eat Yellow Snow :!:
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted November 11, 2003 Report Posted November 11, 2003 If you want a working MSN and an improved radio stack, faster menus etc then Yes. As for getting hold of it, it's not available yet, but it should hopefully be available in the next week or so.
Guest bapp336 Posted November 11, 2003 Report Posted November 11, 2003 Thanks! Awarnwer But what`s a radio stack? And while i`m asking, whats I-mate or q-tek or bootloader or canary, I keep reading about! Is there a glossary out there where these words or phrases are explained? Sorry if these seem like an idiots question but as you`ve guessed i`m a novice. Only had the phone a week. Thanks in advance. 10,000 Lemmings Can`t Be Wrong :!: :!: :!:
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted November 11, 2003 Report Posted November 11, 2003 The radio stack is the part of the OS that controls the way the phone works for reception and the quality of your calls. I-Mate and Qtek are different operators qho have released their own OS updates. Bootloader is basically the same as your PCs BIOS And Canary is the manufacturers code name for the SPV
Guest Maverick Posted November 11, 2003 Report Posted November 11, 2003 The update depends on from where the phone was bought from? Is it from Orange ? Each network operator/reseller have their own brand name for the same phone !! And to add to the confusion, HTC, the manufacturer have different code name for their models SPV - Canary ; SPV E100 - Tanager etc Each of the network operator/reseller release updates which is unique to the phone they sell. Of course, you can use the update from one operator on a phone from another.. But it may screw up the phone if you are unlucky!!
Guest bapp336 Posted November 11, 2003 Report Posted November 11, 2003 Thanks again Awarner, these explaintions help make alot of the forums i`ve been reading in sense now! And Maverick!! It`s an Orange SPV e100, so i take it mine`s using Tanager. Therefore should the 1.6 update, when it comes out, be from Orange website for greater compatability, or if i get the update from elsewhere will it say something lile 1.6canary or 1.6tanager. Anyways thanks both for your great advice!!
Guest Maverick Posted November 11, 2003 Report Posted November 11, 2003 Awarner and the other mods are currently testing out the O UK 1.6 update for us !! We all are eagerly waiting for the update.. Ofcourse, long time ago, when O said they will release the first update for the SPV on a particular date.. we had people literally logged on in the middle of the night waiting for the update file to appear on the O website !! ;-)
Guest bapp336 Posted November 12, 2003 Report Posted November 12, 2003 Will the 1.6 update include any improvements on battery life?
Guest soccerwrek Posted November 12, 2003 Report Posted November 12, 2003 awarner, I'm a little confused. :? I have a QTEK 7070 but I see i-mate logos in the OS. Do I really have an i-mate phone then :?:
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted November 12, 2003 Report Posted November 12, 2003 Possibly, where did you get the phone from? What may have happened is, if you bought the phone second hand the previous owner upgraded using the I-Mate ROM as they may have wanted English T9
Guest Maverick Posted November 12, 2003 Report Posted November 12, 2003 Best part is both Qtek and Imate are sold by the same company !!
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted November 12, 2003 Report Posted November 12, 2003 Really? never knew that :-s :-k
Guest soccerwrek Posted November 12, 2003 Report Posted November 12, 2003 I bought the phone off of eBay. It came from the Philippines. So, if it is an i-mate ROM loaded, then it's somewhat safe to say that when i-mate offers a v1.6 ROM, I should be able to use that for an upgrade. :?:
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted November 13, 2003 Report Posted November 13, 2003 As you bought it from the Philippines the phone is should actually a SAP phone from the SMART network and not an I-Mate as that is the only one that has been released there. The I-Mate comes from the Middle East, Africa and Asia Pacific As for updating any should do as you are not using the phone with the network it was designed for but it's always good to play safe.
