Can anyone tell me how to name my phone so that the name in ActiveSync is something I choose and not Smartphone. With my i700 I am about to go into System - About - Device ID - Device name. Is there anyway to do this?

First of I presume you have typed the phone name incorrectly? and you have an i600? as the i700 is a PocketPC OS and not a Smartphone OS.

You have two options.

1, You could first of all try with the phone disconnected open Activsync then go to FileDelete Partnership then connect the phone and you should be asked to create a new partnership.

2, Perform a Hard Reset This will wipe the phone back to factory default,

(bit drastic) then plug the phone in to the cradle, Activsync will ask you to create a new partnership.

3, Go to www.monolithix.org and download the PHMReg editor, install and run.

now go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINEIdentName and change the value from

Smartphone to whatever you want it to say :(

unless the phone is application locked?

Sorry for the cross post, I was not sure where I should have posted.

I currently have both two i700 and two i600 husband and wife sets. This is why I mentioned how to set the device name on a Pocket PC Phone. I was hoping for the SmartPhone worked the same way.

Encece could you please give more detail on creating a new Partnership without deleting the old one.

I will try the registry tweak.

I have tried the hard reset. No menu box appears to ask for a Device Name.

I am using the using ActiveSync 3.7.1 (3244)

Any more ideas?

A Hard Reset should work :? I do it all the time testing update etc and I also use Activsync 3.7.1

Do not delete the existing partnership then Hard Reset, the phone will be forced to ask you to choose a new name as the default one is already in use.

The option to choose a name should come up after you create a new partnership.
