i live in northern california where the mpx200 is available for $299 through att wireless WITH ACTIVATION. is it possible for me to get an mpx200 through att wireless, activate it through them, then cancel my contract within 14 days (i could state that i get a poor signal at my home and at my job), then keep the phone, get it "network unlocked", and use my cingular sim card? i know that by law they will let you cancel a new contract within 14 days of activation, but if i cancel the contract, can i still keep the phone at the $299 price? or when i cancel can they demand that i return the phone? or can they demand that i pay another $100? (their price for the phone without activation is $400). i'm desperate to get that phone, but i don't want att wireless for a provider. any thoughts? thanks. r.j.

Ha!

You have to give the phone back or pay the full price I'm afraid.

Nice Try though!

Just an FYI, I have this working (MPx200 on Cingular in NorCal). Please PM me if you need instructions. There are special GPRS settings you need for Cingular to make the server synch and Web functions operate.

Can you take a look in the ARTICLES Section under GPRS Settings Repository thread and compare what you have to what is listed there.

If it is different, could you please post it here and we will get it revised.

Thanks.

I have done essentially what you are trying. The difference is I went through a reseller to do it. I bought mine at Comp-USA for $299 with a jabra blue tooth headset and a 64 mb SD card. I then called up the next day and cancelled my contract. I put in my Tmobile SIM, unlocked it (try MPx200 unlock on ebay) and Viola! Since I bought it through a VAR the hardware was compeletely between me and them. I simply never returned it.

I don't know about the GPRS settings for internet access (tmobile) if anyone has a hint please share.

I'm also a Cingular customer in NorCal with an MPx200. I'm interested in the settings necessary to for gprs but so far I haven't been able to find them. Thanks for any help you can give me.
