Guest winterminute Posted November 13, 2003 Report Posted November 13, 2003 I have seen quite a few posts, ads, sneakpeaks, articles, etc that show a camera for the MPx200. The picture show it using the SD slot, however, since the MPx200 doesn't support SDIO, I don't see how that is possible. Is there a camera for the MPx200? Where can I buy? Can someone post a link? Thanks!
Guest [email protected] Posted November 14, 2003 Report Posted November 14, 2003 Hey there winterminute, could You please use a questionmark in the topic next time? Thanks.
Guest winterminute Posted November 14, 2003 Report Posted November 14, 2003 Sorry...I didn't mean to get your hopes up..
Guest sophist Posted November 24, 2003 Report Posted November 24, 2003 There definitely is one as Motorola are giving it away with the MPx200 here in Hong Kong instead of the memory card. It's made by a Taiwanese company called GaborVision (www.gaborvision.com.tw) & has obviously been designed specifically for the MPx200.
Guest cortez Posted November 24, 2003 Report Posted November 24, 2003 do you have the phone and camera attachment? if so, how well does it work?
Guest [email protected] Posted November 24, 2003 Report Posted November 24, 2003 Good news! Does the camera attachment have built-in RAM? Since it uses the SD-card slot it would be great if it could be used as storage as well.
Guest Bunchie Posted November 24, 2003 Report Posted November 24, 2003 Wow I totally forgot their might be a camera attachment available for this phone.. This makes it even better! I hope it gets fully released and doesn't end up being a stack of cash
Guest Maverick Posted November 24, 2003 Report Posted November 24, 2003 Can some one who has the SD camera publish a review? resolution, video recording etc etc
Guest Emad Posted November 24, 2003 Report Posted November 24, 2003 Why doesn't someone just use the mini-usb port to have a camera?
Guest Maverick Posted November 24, 2003 Report Posted November 24, 2003 Why doesn't someone just use the mini-usb port to have a camera? I dont think the USB port lets you connect a USB webcam or something.. if thats what u have in mind.
Guest ranzz Posted November 25, 2003 Report Posted November 25, 2003 There definitely is one as Motorola are giving it away with the MPx200 here in Hong Kong instead of the memory card. Guest smittyofdhs Posted November 25, 2003 Report Posted November 25, 2003 First, has it been totally proved that the MPX doesn't have an SDIO slot? Initial reports said it did, and even current reviews of the MPX vs. i600 say "both phones have SDIO". I know there's no mention of SDIO in any Moto information but I've seen this happen with other features. The feature could be missed when marketing wrote up the review. Second, if it doesn't then the camera will most likely be like the one made for the (non-SDIO) PocketPC Phones made by HTC. The camera operation and storage was actually on the camera attachment, then a piece of software allowed for transfer of the images to main memory or storage card.
Guest [email protected] Posted November 25, 2003 Report Posted November 25, 2003 Which in my view is a good idea even if it is SDIO, since the attachment steals the slot.
Guest sophist Posted November 25, 2003 Report Posted November 25, 2003 Apart from the fact that it takes several attempts at inserting the camera card before the phone recognizes it, once it does, it isn't bad at all! The software which is pre-installed on the MPx200 here in Hong Kong is IA Album for Smartphone which provides image and video capture as well as photo album and slideshow functionality. Image quality is quite impressive (at least as displayed on the handset screen - I haven't yet tried to copy any images to my PC). Video is pretty respectable too. Lens rotates through 180' which is one advantage of a separate plug-in camera. Camera also offers 1x, 2x & 4x zoom using the Up and Down keys. Card supplied with little plastic travel case. Full spec below.
Guest ranzz Posted November 25, 2003 Report Posted November 25, 2003 Thanks sophist! Where did you buy it and how much did it cost? What about English? Nowadays seems like importing a phone from the far east is the best and cheapest solution... seeing as I'm dying to get an MPx200 I might just give up on my Orange UK / AT&T Wireless plans and try buying one from the far east! so any info will be much appreciated, again.
Guest Bunchie Posted November 25, 2003 Report Posted November 25, 2003 Wow that looks pretty nifty! I'd definitely be interested in getting hold of one of these. As long at they are reasonanly priced. Do you have any information on when and how much they will retail for?
Guest sophist Posted November 25, 2003 Report Posted November 25, 2003 Unfortunately, mobile phone companies here in Hong Kong never really got into the habit of subsidising the purchase of handsets by their customers which means that whereas just about any other electronic appliance you can think of costs a lot less here than in Europe (particularly now that the pound & euro are so strong), mobiles are relatively expensive. However, that also means that all phones sold here are unlocked and we are spoiled for choice. Chinese companies are now producing some amazing GSM phones which have yet to find their way over to Europe.
Guest Bonzo Posted November 25, 2003 Report Posted November 25, 2003 Well having just spoken to Orange upgrades about the MPX200 & what is or isn't available for it... yes there is a camera available!!! It fit's in the SD card slot, (as I think we all knew/assumed it would), and is currently listed in their accessories list but they don't have a price... I'll call O accessories tomorrow and keep everyone posted as to what the price may be if indeed they have a price
Guest smittyofdhs Posted November 25, 2003 Report Posted November 25, 2003 Orange is doing what ATTWS is, they list the products on their own accessories page even though they have no idea when it will be available, cost, or anything about the product. I have found that if you go to Moto's accessories site, everything there is actually available for purchase (unless out of stock). When Moto puts it on their site, then I'll believe that it's available for purchase.
Guest winterminute Posted November 25, 2003 Report Posted November 25, 2003 So, is it listed on Moto's site?
Guest smittyofdhs Posted November 25, 2003 Report Posted November 25, 2003 So, is it listed on Moto's site? no, nada......
Guest Bunchie Posted November 25, 2003 Report Posted November 25, 2003 Well I hope it makes an appearance soon! I am kinda missing the camera from my SPV a little and would definitely consider purchasing it if the price is right.
Guest Bonzo Posted November 26, 2003 Report Posted November 26, 2003 Well as promised I called O accessories and they had no idea about ANY accessories for the MPx but gave me a number for Motorola direct in the UK... So yep i called them and spoke to one of their sales team who's official line was that there may be a camera available for the phone but they can't say when... unoffically the stance was that yeah there will be a camera at some point andmaybe soon(ish)... So U can take from that what U want... personally I'll not hold my breath just yet but hopefully it will arrive soon... Sorry it's not the news we were looking for but I guess at least it is news!!!
Guest Bonzo Posted November 26, 2003 Report Posted November 26, 2003 Well for the latest check out the link below at MPx200.org... the pic there pretty much defines how the camera was described to me last night by O upgrades too so I'll leave it to U to read into that what U will!!! Motorola's SD Camera Revealed
