Guest mike-oh Posted November 15, 2003 Report Posted November 15, 2003 I've been playing around with this great little bit of software for a while and i think the free trial period is up so i'll post this while i can. http://www.keyhole.com/ Basically, it's almost like a global edition of the ariel photos you find on multimap. It allows you to zoom right in from space to street level. Not all the Earths surface is covered but not surprisingly Iraq has been photographed in great detail  Before any of you ask, no the photos aren't real time. If you've ever watched 24 however it may highten the fun! So here we go, lets see what we can find (remember these are only photos for civilian use! imagine what capabilities the military have!!)snap1.jpgsnap2.jpgsnap3.jpgsnap4.jpgsnap5.jpgsnap6.jpg
Guest nickcornaglia Posted November 17, 2003 Report Posted November 17, 2003 Thats a cool program. Pretty expensive though. I downloaded the trial. Nice.
Guest Vector Posted November 17, 2003 Report Posted November 17, 2003 I'm downloading this now, looks fun
Guest spacecowboy6982 Posted November 19, 2003 Report Posted November 19, 2003 It only had London available for download as the only UK city - gutted  Still an excellent app ! spacecowboy
Guest fraser Posted November 24, 2003 Report Posted November 24, 2003 Looks cool, two questions though: Do you have to pre-download the city packs, or does it stream from the web? Does it zoom in smoothly, or in steps? Thanks!
Guest mike-oh Posted November 24, 2003 Report Posted November 24, 2003 Zooms in very smoothly (no steps in any shape or form) and the city packs are streamed from the net. The program connects to a server when you load it. I've no idea what the performance would be like on 56k but my guess is that it would suck ass big time! It runs v smoothly with a 600k b/band tho. Also there are 2 versions, one optimized for nVidia cards (like the one above) and another one not. I can't vouch for the performance of the second one. My free trial is up now
Guest fraser Posted November 25, 2003 Report Posted November 25, 2003 Very cool. Will try the trial soon!! I've always loved special effects in movies that zoom from space into the planet. Now I can do it in the comfort of my own home!!
Guest mike-oh Posted March 5, 2004 Report Posted March 5, 2004 Has anyone tried the full version? I think it comes with the Mars pack aswell now!!
Guest Stuart P Posted March 5, 2004 Report Posted March 5, 2004 Hey Mike, I've just been on multimap searching 'rest of the world' for a place called 'Mars', and guess what?? "Searching for Mars found more than 15 places. You might want to try again with a more specific place name...." :?
Guest nickcornaglia Posted March 5, 2004 Report Posted March 5, 2004 I really like this program. It helped me help my son understand about the world. How it is round. How big it is. Etc. After my trial was up I was emailed an offer to buy for way less that listed on the site. Still considering.
