Guest Dr_StrangeTrick Posted November 16, 2003 Report Posted November 16, 2003 A word of warning, I just got my first Orange bill after upgrading to the SPV E100 and I have been changed a whopping £50.00 for 5Mb of data. After talking to Orange they say that this is for 'surfing' non wap sites I.E. Full Internet sites as the open access pack only covers you for WAP data. They then put me onto technical whose only advice was to set my IE, Connection settings from 'The Internet' to 'WAP Network' (and boy is it slow!!) So watch out, you can do lots of wonderful things with your SmartPhone but be careful at £10/Mb you may get a big surprise for Christmas as well!!
Guest terryjacobs Posted November 16, 2003 Report Posted November 16, 2003 I had exactly the same problem as that. I had a huge bill and was NOT happy as they had mislead me to think it was free. So is it possible to setup "proper" internet to run over WAP for free on the E100? Can you also use this for email? Thanks
Guest blewer Posted November 16, 2003 Report Posted November 16, 2003 Complain that they did not explain this in their advertising. I think that they have been very misleading with all of their new packages. £10 a MB that's way above what they should be charging anyway. Have a look on the orange website for data costs and quote them to customer services. Maybe they will let you off a few MB or add extra for next month. Worth a try, I would have been very P*ssed off if that had happened to me So is it possible to setup "proper" internet to run over WAP for free No it's not, but you can with most providers check your e-mail with wap
Guest terryjacobs Posted November 16, 2003 Report Posted November 16, 2003 They told me they'd let me off the GPRS bill for the first month and said i'm now aware that it would cost me an arm and a leg. They also told me to contact the correspondance dept. Which I sent a snail mail letter to a MONTH AGO! Still with no reply. I'll send another letter this week. They take the p really.
Guest martin Posted November 16, 2003 Report Posted November 16, 2003 After talking to Orange they say that this is for 'surfing' non wap sites I.E. Full Internet sites as the open access pack only covers you for WAP data. These charges will be for data transfer using the GPRS APN orangeinternet. Open Access refers only to the GPRS APN orangewap (or CSD WAP) and is mostly associated with phones which give WAP over GPRS only. They then put me onto technical whose only advice was to set my IE, Connection settings from 'The Internet' to 'WAP Network' (and boy is it slow!!)You should be using GPRS and Orange WAP (APN orangewap) for everything. It shouldn't be slow :?

When I got this pack put on my account I was promised it was for full internet using the orangeinternet APN and got a note put on my account stating I was told this. When / if my large bill arrives I can turn around and point this out to them and refuse to pay my bill until they sort it out.
Guest HurricaneDave Posted November 16, 2003 Report Posted November 16, 2003 Posted from my SmartPhone! they put me on that open access crap when i got my e100 and the only thing that stopped me getting a monster of a bill was a word of advice from -moderator will- "thanks for that" i know pay £8 for 7mb ,and its not just there customers that are confused .the guy i spoke to at orange data support also got slapped with a huge unexpected bill .if open access confused him then what chance do we have? maybe we should create an online petition about oranges serious misrepresentation of there services and blatant misleading of there customers...Gather everyones thoughts on this subject in one central place and then send it to orange
Guest ferret Posted November 16, 2003 Report Posted November 16, 2003 Sorry, just noticed the thread title, "Open Access". I'm on the Orange World pack, don't know if this is different. With OCS being so confused what hope has the customer got? :?: :?:
Guest statscat Posted November 16, 2003 Report Posted November 16, 2003 orange world covers both orangeinternet APN and OrangeWAP apn orange access only ever covered wap
Guest martin Posted November 16, 2003 Report Posted November 16, 2003 ferret Your OK with the Orange World Access as this includes full use of the inter net APN. In fact the SPV is ONLY considered to access Orange World via the internet APN and therefore it also includes services like web browsing, E-mail, video etc. The only consideration is that this pack is not unlimited GPRS (after the first month) but it's still a very good deal. Unfortunately the WAP access pack did cause some confusion as it does not include use of the the internet APN. This wasn't a problem for most phones which only did WAP over GPRS but it did catch out a few SPV users. E-mail, Messenger and web browsing all use the SPV internet connection hence the big bills.
Guest Dr_StrangeTrick Posted November 17, 2003 Report Posted November 17, 2003 Thanks mate, I will have a word.

Hi, What's orange world access and how much does it cost? Any idea? Ta
Guest Dr_StrangeTrick Posted February 17, 2004 Report Posted February 17, 2004 Just to let everyone know, they eventually refunded the bill :) (after making three calls) and it came as quite a surprise because they have taken it off my current bill (very heavy use) which came to a grand total of -0.63p So fair play they coughed up.
Guest JamminJP Posted February 17, 2004 Report Posted February 17, 2004 just to add a twist on this! Iv'e just gone back to orange after a year away, and got my first bill today. I have Orange World 5 and I though it covered any GPRS, but it appears I have lines on my bill for GPRS GPRS Wap and GPRS Internet, the wap one was free but I have been charged for the Internet. It looks like Orange World only covers GPRS wap :) I thought it was 5mb of any GPRS :D
Guest Dr_StrangeTrick Posted February 17, 2004 Report Posted February 17, 2004 I think you have to go for the Orange World 3 has this includes CSD access which is what the smarthone uses (from what I can make out anyway)
Guest JamminJP Posted February 20, 2004 Report Posted February 20, 2004 well I called O and got a refund for the GPRS Internet, Customer Service told me that its 5mb of GPRS and Inet should be included. Some how I still don't believe them and we will see next month!
Guest ncolli1981 Posted February 20, 2004 Report Posted February 20, 2004 I got hammered this month with a £40 bill for my GPRS and same as everybody else I was told that your first 5mb was free, lying corprate scum. Plus to add insult to injury they will only refund £15 and I was hung up twice whilst trying to discuss the error. :x
Guest Toyota-F1.com Posted February 21, 2004 Report Posted February 21, 2004 Right I'm getting confused with this now... I've got the Orange SPV E200. I've been told I have Orange World Access 5 free for a month (this month - Feb 04). Orange guide book (brochure from shop) says underneath, basically, "10 texts, 20 photos, 5 videos, 5MB of browsing". And it also says "1MB gives you approximately: 1200 wap pages; 20 web pages; 100 emails without attachments; 10 emails with one-page attachment" So, if I access the internet e.g. www.F1Racing.net it is free? If I go to Orange Update (Start>Orange>Orange Update) and download something, it is free? If I go to wap.o2.co.uk it is free? (Also, it IS possible to go to WAP based pages isn't it, on the Orange SPV E200?)
Guest smith2001 Posted February 22, 2004 Report Posted February 22, 2004 orange world access includes the full web as part of our bundle, they even tell us on the website underneath the advert for it (orange world) how many WEB pages we can view with 1 of our MB's. if they charge me, i will have such a go @ them and also the T&C's do not contain any info restricting the web sites or WAP only sites we can view, infact it says nothing of the sort
