Guest Deemon Posted December 17, 2002 Report Posted December 17, 2002 Im looking to upgrade from my T68 in January. Ive been looking around and the two phones that Im seriously consideing are the SPV and P800. The P800 is gonna be more expensive than the SPV but there seems to be lots of unhappy SPV owners talking about bugs and then theres the Certification issue also(p800 apparently wont have that problem)... So what are the features that you would have made you happy to own an SPV ? I just need a little help in making my mind up.... Thanks in advance.... Deemon
Guest spacemonkey Posted December 17, 2002 Report Posted December 17, 2002 My call is that: SPV Pros -Small -Nice screen -Available Now Cons -Keypad (is pretty small but you get used to it) -Certification (software is slowly becoming available and I think within 6 Months this will become a non issue, although maybe still lack freeware) -Bugs (Nothing too serious if you give the phone a chance... it's windows, a reboot resolves most problems) -Low Battery Life -Camera pauses before taking photos (New software IA Album/Capture may help with this and add video) P800 Pros -Stylus input -Big screen -Good battery life? Cons -BIG phone. From pictures you imagine this phone is small and sexy, it's frontal area is the same as a Nokia 7650 -Flip thing. The flippy bit of plastic looks annoying, pressing "buttons" on screen if you remove the flip would make the screen all finger printy. -Symbian OS. Some might say this is good, others not, personally I'm excited about Smartphone 2002 because it moves firmly away from the phone mold of OSs and I would fear that Symbian would still be tying you to some of the dodgy old propreitry apps that annoyed me on previous phones. -Not available till at least February. Just my take on it. I personally LOVE my SPV and the "quirks" it has are easy for me to tolerate. But then I am someone who happily uses Beta software etc and I'll sit down and figure out how to resolve problems myself because help desks are useless. Especially for new technology as people are finding out. The other thing to remember is that the SPV has bugs, but the P800 won't be guaranteed to be bugfree. It's been out in Japan for a while so I'd hope some of the bugs were sorted already but we won't know till it's on the shelves. Also remember that you can upgrade again in a year. So don't stress too much. Later
