Bluetooth ActiveSync Question

I can happily ActiveSync my E200 with my PC but I have a couple of questions.

With Bluetooth running I go to the ActiveSync program on my phone.

If I go to Menu/Connect via Bluetooth, the phone connects and sync starts OK but if I just press the right soft key 'Sync' without pressing 'Menu/Connect via Bluetooth' I get the following error message "Unable to connect. Verify your dial up or proxy settings and try again".

1 - Why do I get this error?

2 - How do I disconnect from Bluetooth ActiveSync? The only way I see is to turn BT off.

Is it just me or when I search for the list of available bluetooth profiles the phone supports, it only detects SSA which is a dial up modem.

How can I get a bluetooth Activesync connection using this???

I tried pairing it up with my Ipaq 3870 and it reports that it can only have a Dial up connection too.

I can happily ActiveSync my E200 with my PC but I have a couple of questions.

First of all could you say what kind of (model, company) USB Bluetooth dongle do you have ?

I have the TDK Bluetooth USB dongle.

A few hints:

1 - The adapter does not like being plugged into a hub

2 - Can you pair to your PC?

3 - The Bluetooth icon on your PC turns green when you have an active connection.

4 - Double click the BT icon on your PC. Go to View/Modify Config. Then Local services. Note the BT serial port.

5 - Open Activesync on your PC. Go to file/connection settings and make sure the serial com port is the same as in no4 above. If not change it. Make sure the check box is ticked and the port says it is available. If not choose another port in no4 above.

6 - Go to active sync on your phone. Click menu/Connect via BT. (BT must be on of course).

7 - If that does not work, right click the PC's BT icon, select Quick Connect/BT Serial port. Then after it connects turn BT off then on (phone).

8 - Good luck. BT is a lot of trial and error, but one thing is for sure, it's a pain is the arse!

I have tried two Pc's with in-built bluetooth. Sony & Toshiba

Neither can see or connect to a serial port. They can only see a modem port or Voice

Any thoughts

Look in Control Panel/System/Device Manager. Do you have a pile of BT Coms ports.

Yes,

but on the Spv200 it does not show a serial port service only SSA and Voice gateway. SSA is just for modem attachments ?

I don't get any serial ports but can connect to lots of other devices successfully

You don't need a serial port on the e200. Look at msmobiles site. He has a few hints and tips there.

I have found it impossible to ActiveSync with my laptop over Bluetooth. My laptop has Bluetooth built in, and is a Toshiba model.

Like "broughs" I can only see SSA and Dial Up Networking as available on the E200. I have paired with the E200 using SSA on Com port 8.

Gone to ActiveSync on my phone and selected "Connect via Bluetooth" and gone to the settings on ActiveSync on my laptop and selected Allow Serial Cable or infrared connection on this Com port" and selected Com port 8.

Doesn't work at all. Anybody have any ideas? I've followed the details on Msmobiles site, without any success.

I have a T610 also, and that connects by Bluetooth easily without any problems.

Still Strugling.

In order to work all other devices show a serial port service the spv does not.

As suggested above selecting the modem port is successful, but all you get is errors

Activesync does not recognise the device connected.

Anyone help

Please !!!!!!!!!

I could not sync even though connection was clearly established. I only resolved this by changing both the BT Serial Com port (you can see this in My Bluetooth Places Paired device - right click, Properties) and the Com port in ActiveSyncConnection Settings to Com port 9. If you have a similar problem, I suggest you look at the Bluetooth Ports avaiblable and try an alternative Port.

Anyone want to buy an unused USB Cradle? I guess IR would have done just the same job but without the blue lights its not the same.

Good luck.

Just to clear up a few things here.

It is corrct that the E200 does not advertise a serial port service, this is however correct!

It is the pc that needs to have this service and not the phone.

If your software is anything like standard, you should have a bluetooth icon in the system tray. Right click on this and select advanced config.

Select Local services. and there should be a service called Bluetooth serial port, and it should have a com port number. ie COM5. Make a not of this.

Now go into bluetooth network places. and view devices in range. ( you should have your e200 set to discoverable fo this).

Right click on your device and choose pair device. this will ask you to enter a pin number. enter any number you want.

Your phone will then ask you to enter that same pin number. The devices are now paired.

Go into active sync connection settings on the pc. Tick allow serial communication and select the com port we found out earlier.

Now go into activesync on the phone and choose sync via bluetooth. with a bit of luck it will connect.

Hope this helps.

I did have loads of problems with this, so i did a mfgrs reset from the config menu on the phone and started from scratch. This time it worked as expectected.
