I am unable to install anything but smartphone apps on my MPx200. Furthermore if I install a PPC app I am unable from that point on install any more apps of any kind.

My question is this. . .Can one ONLY install apps designed for my build of WinCE(smartphone)? or can you install some but you have to try it out and see?

I have been totally unable to find anyone else mentioning this problem. This tells me that either no one is dumb enough like me to try or I am the only one with this problem.

Please help.

Also if anyone knows how to "unstick" the programs that won't install I would appreciate it greatly.

It's pretty simple - Smartphone OS only accepts Smartphone Os applications. you can't expect it to be able to install a PPC application as the registry is different, the directories are different and the entire system is a whole other operating system.

There are the occasional Win CE apps that can be installed, but that's because Smartphone is based on Win CE, while PPC itself is based also on Win CE, but PPC and Smartphone are not the same OS and do not have the ability to act the same way with applications (though applications are easily ported from on OS to the other).

Thanks for the answer I do appreciate and understand it.

It irritates me that MS didn't do more to make them more cross-functional. IMHO they should be able to write apps to a common framework and then the OS do a minor level of interpretation such that screen size, input methods and folder structures are taken into account. Its bothersome to me that the relatively minor differences between the 2 platforms require entirely different apps. Maybe I am preaching to the choir or this is an impossibility but I can't help but thing MS could have done a better job on this one.

Thank you again.
