inadequate system permissions...

Hello.

I've read tons of posts on this subject, but nothing has been able to help me thus far. I have an i600, am on Verizon in the Northeast USA, and can't seem to work my way around this annoying problem(system permission). Most recently, I am trying to install PHM regedit. I don't know my way around the phone as well as most of you...but I learn fast. If anyone is able to help me, please take my newbie-ism to the smartphone realm into consideration(laymans terms please). Thanks!

Welcome to the site

Unfortunately I do not have an i600 so I can only explain about the error

message but not give you an answer to cure the problem, sorry

System permissions is what the phone's OS decides is safe to install and what is not.

In the UK phones were sold application locked, this means that only certain programs work as they needed to be signed (another word for being approved safe by the operator) this acts as a safety net to stop rogue programs either screwing up your phone or dialing out when not wanted and giving you a large bill.

An example of lack of this protection is, on a symbian OS phone there is a program that can dial to a premium number without the user being aware of, so when you get given a large bill who is to blame? the Operator or the user for installing the app that caused this?

So on the Smartphone depending on Operator there is the application lock.

Back to the problem in hand, to get around the application lock in the UK we can "decert the phone" via the Orang web site and this removes the lock so that unsigned software will now work. (this is ment for developers only and you do agree to a disclaimer)

As you have a different phone this method will unfortunately not work for you.

Hope this helps and explains the problem you have

Unfortunatelythere is no cure at the moment.

The i600 seems partially app locked if there is such a think as multiple levels of app locking.

May uncertified programs work and I have not found a certified program that does not work.

But there are programs that mess with the registry, like RegEdit that will not work on the phone. SmartphoneNotes is another that will not work because it toys with ActiveSync...potentially compromising your PC security. (I heard the developer is working on an i600 version...unconfirmed).

All in all, this has not been that upsetting to me...YET! Hopefully, Verizon will create their own verion of OTA Unlocking for development and those who wish to "give up their rights" via the disclaimer.

Another rumor is that Verizon is creating a support site for the i600. Maybe it will include just that.

Thanks for the input, I do understand the message I am getting with my phone...just wanted to see if anyone knew a way around the roadblock. I typically try not to repeat something that has been previously posted in a forum, so I did read a bunch of posts concerning Orange's customers having their phone unlocked prior to my thread. Thanks for the help, I'll just suffer until some 11 year old genius comes up with a solution. :
