E200 - What works, what doesn't

Thought it might be a good idea to us to post the software/tweaks that work and do not work with the E200.

Starters for 10....

1 - To get Screen Capture SS to work. Install as normal then under My Smartphone create a folder called IPSM and inside it My Documents. This is where your screen shots will be stored. EDIT: New version now available.

2 - I can't get Midnight's looping ring tones tweak to work, because I am unable to copy to or from the Profile folder (Would unlocking the phone give me access rights?)

3 - The fantastic tweak to replace the 'Dunk' when you add a contact doe not work. I am working with the developer for a fix. EDIT: Set system sounds to OFF and tweak not needed.

4 - Most of my 2002 home screens (even the basic ones) need a tweaking to work on the E200

5 - If anyone knows how to make the time appear on one line and the calendar entry appear on the next line on the new Orange home screen, please let me know. EDIT: Can't be done. Part of the plugin.

i'm surprised no-ones noticed that many homescreens dont work (ones with the extra screens :lol:)

and that you cant skin the media player

and that Surreal Start by Spacemonkey doesnt work either

In fact, theres loads of tweaks that dont work, I do know why they dont work, but i wont go into that at the moment ;)

If the screen make a reference to the orange shortcut plugin using the same clsid from the SPV or the E100 then the shortcuts won't show on the E200.

The clsid has changed from this on the SPV and E100

To this on the E200

so if you update your classids that will start working fine as I think the old syntax is supported ok, although for the links I think you need the

the e200 homescreen plugin as a little bit more complex than that, it uses plugins within a plugin, using parent and child, so that when you select an icon, you have several options under that icon :lol:

midnight is the idea of this forum not in past to help each other develop things to improve the phone.

why wont you share the knowledge of why a lot of tweaks wont work (not home screens) when your information could help aid development?

ok, heres the facts that i know......

HKLM registry is completely locked, you cannot change anything in this part of the registry, pretty daft really when you consider that the phone is supposed to be app locked with prompt mode. The ONLY way around this currently is to unlock the phone via Orange Developers site. And hopefully O will fix this, cos like i said, very few of my tweaks work, and all my homescreens with extra screens dont work either.

In the SDK its mentions that HKLM etc are priviledged so I guess the phone is doing what Mr Orange said, he said that unpriviledged things would run fine and he did say that your screen tweks would require priviledged access. The unlock will remove the protection over those registry keys (which can alter your system, so fair enough that out of the box they aren't open).

I like to think Orange won't remove the unlock facility and can't really see a business case for removing it .... it would kill development, but I think they cater to consumers not developers which is why i guess you still need to unlock your phone to open the registry.

by the way, totally unrelated, but i liked the original Reloaded 1.4 , but not so much reload 2 - any chance of a 1.4 but with all the extra screens once the problems are sorted :(

Binarys Task Manager - Works but crashes when it's looking for IPSM (which doesn't exist)

Motocross Stunt Racer - Very jerky, music stutters (Will try re-installing)

Orneta Notepad - File Browser doesn't work properly (Will try re-installing)

Orneta Reader - File Browser doesn't work properly (Will try re-installing)

Pocket Mini Golf - Starts to run, then just stops

Pocket MVP Divx Player - Various Error messages

Smart Screen Capture - Runs but doesn't seem to save the image

SMS Tools - Runs, but incorrectly (probably due to new Messaging structure on E200)

I put my old SD card in my E200 (with all my program files on it, installed Smart Explorer, and browsed to the exe files to run these apps and games. A handful need reinstalling & I'm sure they'll work ok when I get round to it. But the majority work fine, which means you can just copy your shortcuts over from one phone to another, rather than actually reinstalling them all. ;)
