Guest Paul [MVP] Posted November 20, 2003 Report Posted November 20, 2003 An intruiging oversight by Orange France has been highlighted by Smartphony.org. You can read the translated article here, but I think it goes a little something like this... The SPV E200 is now available in France and has the latest application versions, but nevertheless it suffers a curious bug - MSN Messenger cannot be connected by using the factory provided connection settings. Two solutions are available to cure this problem, one is simple via an 'Over the air' update, the second is intended for the more advanced users... First solution via "Updates": - Go in to "Start" then "Orange" then "Updates" - Select "Check the updates" - Select "Configure my SPV" - Select "Reconfig. SPV" and the device will display "Downloading" - Once the download has finished, the device will display "Opening" This method reconfigures the whole of your connections and MMS. It allows you to preserve the Orange Proxy settings but configured slightly differently. The Orange Customers must force connection to the "Corporate network" in Internet Options to browse. Second solution intended for the advanced users: - Select "Start," then "Settings" then "More" then "Data Connections". - Select "Menu" then "Edit Connections" - Select "Proxy Connections" - Select "Menu" then "Delete" to erase the Orange Proxy. MSN Messenger will then connect without a problem. Note that this information will soon be in the Smartphony.org FAQ. Well, at least the UK Messenger works OK right? Well, not exactly. A number of our MSN Messenger using members have noticed that the UK build on the E200 has a bit of a fit if you set 'Run this program when a connection is available'. It seems that if you have this option enabled, the phone produces all sorts of errors ranging from simple 'Service Unavailable' to 'Cannot log in as you are already logged in'. Oh dear.... Whoever manages Messenger testing within Orange has been sneaking off home early ;-) P
Guest MARKUKCOUK Posted November 21, 2003 Report Posted November 21, 2003 um actually ive had the "Run this program when connection is available" since my very first SPV, and my E100. its common to all i believe - i think it signs you in automatically, but when you run the program - it forces you to sign in again!
Guest jcinfo Posted November 21, 2003 Report Posted November 21, 2003 This probleme is just for French E200
Guest nixy Posted November 21, 2003 Report Posted November 21, 2003 hope it is just the french end as have just ordered 2 for me and the wife. Be a bit of a sad situation otherwise.
Guest Rusty Posted November 23, 2003 Report Posted November 23, 2003 Hmmmmmm my messenger won't work no matter what  it goes to sign in, but every time comes back with:- "Sign-in to MSN Messenger Service failed. Verify that you have entered a valid sign-in name and correct password and try again. If the problem continues, contact MSN." Trouble is, i've checked and double checked my sign-in details and they are 100% correct, what's going on???????
Guest MARKUKCOUK Posted November 23, 2003 Report Posted November 23, 2003 i had that on my spv once. only a hard reset fixed it. try signing in on another account - if it still wont work... try a reset
Guest Rusty Posted November 23, 2003 Report Posted November 23, 2003 But this is a brand new E200, only got it yesterday and it wouldn't work from the 1st time i tried it  may have to ring O and see what their take on it is, though i expect them to give me nothing but blank looks (metaphorical, over the phone blank looks )
Guest Shuflie Posted November 25, 2003 Report Posted November 25, 2003 I know this is a stupid question but does everything else GPRS related work on your phone? i.e. did Orange remember to switch on GPRS for your SIM card?
Guest Rusty Posted November 25, 2003 Report Posted November 25, 2003 Yeah everything works, MSN Messenger even works now for some reason, too late though - the phone is off back tomorrow.........i have no faith in Orange to fix any of these problems any time soon, so may aswell stick to my original SPV
