:lol:/

I called orange upgrades to day to ask how much it'll cost me to have a new E200 now, even though my contract has a month to run and I was told that it would be a £75 upgrade fee and £149.99 for the handset. I can't afford that much so I declined and said I'd wait until Dec. :(

After looking again at onestops prices, I decided that, sod it, I was gonna end my current contract and see what was available nearer Xmas.

Here's the interesting Part, I rang up to cancel (150,6,3 and cancel) and told the guy I was leaving orange, He asked why and I told him. He said he'd just had a quick look at my account and that because I was a loyal customer, that he would WAVER the upgrade fee and let me have the phone for £49.99  .

You could have knocked me down with a feather, naturally I accepted and I shall be the proud owner of An E200 come monday. ;)

Who said Orange didn't care?

It's annoying that you have to threaten to leave before they'll do you a favour!

It's a well known ploy to phone up your network (not just Orange, they all do it) and ask to cancel. They will then transfer you to their special "Lets try and keep the buggers on contract" department, which is staffed by people empowered to actually make a decision without consulting anyone else (rather than doing what the script on thier screen tells them to do). They then offer a new phone at a discounted (or free) price, or some special tariff deal; but only if you agree to sign another 12 month contract. Now if they only offered that in the first place it would save everyone a lot of hassle.

There was a while with One2One (as was) where they were losing quite a few customers to Orange; to the point that if you threatened to defect to Orange One2One would offer you a better deal quicker than if you had only requested the account to be closed.

Annoyingly the first point of contact in Customer Service departments is rarely empowered enough to make a desicion based on the merits of the situation; forcing you into this silly dance to talk to someone that can actually offer you a deal.

I know what you're saying and I had an inkling something like this might happen, but I never expected £49.99.

A penny off £50 is an amazing deal when you consider what they told you at first!

I had exactly the same conversation with O today, I too was told it would be £149 plus £75 upgrade fee. I threatened to leave and promptly got transferred and offered the same £49.99 deal!

All I've got to do is wait a couple of weeks til I get to the 11th month of my contract. Not perfect but I think I can just about cope with that! ;) :(

I'm on O2 OVP 100 btw, you definitely don't need to have an overly expensive contract to get this deal :)

Grr,

Tried the same thing; OCS would not waive the upgrade fee (got 3 weeks left on contract!) and would only offer the phone for £99 (plus £75 upgrade)! I have been with them since 4 months after the network was launched. I regularly pay £30 a month for my phone bill. I am still on the same contract (number) since I joined. I told them about my problems with the original SPV (paid the upgrade fee and £129.99 then had it replaced (faulty) 6 times). They didn't give a sh*t cos I am on E50. Mentioned taht I was going to T-Mobile on a similar plan (750 mins) and they said 'we can offer that'. Woopie do it's not about matching it it's about Os service. Mentioned that I could get the phone for £34.99 (or free) with a new contract and they didn't seem interested.

Well f*ck them (sorry all)! Buy (and good riddance) O!

Couldn't you just offer to move to a higher tariff, then OVP to something else next month. You won't get ED50 any more, cos thats been phased out and is also the reason they're not offering you a good deal. Your custom isn't value adding to their business. I know it sounds silly, but ED50 bleeds them dry.

mcwarre, I was on ED50 'till about a month ago, I changed to YP120, I bet if you offered to change to YP120 or ovp750 they'd do the deal. there desperate to get people off ED50. Then again If you prefer ED50....

Hrm...i got charged £149.99 for my E200, my tariff is £30p/m and includes 200 mins Xnet anytime and 500 texts a month. How does that seem to you guys? Am i getting ripped on the handset price considering the 500 texts i am getting? I dont have to pay the £75 upgrade fee...but if you guys think i can get the handset for less then i will take it up with orange....whaddya reckon?

Hmm, 1 month to go on my contract and they "can't put my account into their matrix to offer a better upgrade deal" Janeway, how'd you manage a free upgrade? Do you have a 50+ bill? I don't seem to be able to get them down from 225 quid (150 + 75).

Of course, despite not being able to be offered a better deal, I can send in my disconnection notice with no problems.

Ahh, OK, the third circle of orange (customer relations) can actually do my upgrade for 49.99! Yey, arriving in the next three working days.

I actually called the cancellations department and when she asked why I wanted to cancel I said that I was sick of their treatment of loyal customers.

I told her I could get the e200 for £35 if I signed a new 12 month contract with OneStopShop, and yet I had to pay £199 to do the same as an upgrade via Orange ie: new 12 month contract.

She agreed that was crap and said I can do it for free and have it there on Monday, do you still want to cancel? I said Don't be soppy darling I'll take it  ;)

When I first rang O they quoted me £149.00 for the phone and £125 upgrade fee because my contract still had 9 days to run.

So I cancelled my contract and said I was going to start a new one.

However 2 days later I decided to ring again. I told the chap in customer services that I wanted to speak to someone who could make decisions and not have somebody read me a price of a computer system that has no reasoning ability.

So I got the phone for £49.99 coming monday. Also a new tariff with 50 Texts (had none before) and the GPRS bundle now comes with another 10 texts and 20 MMS messages, and its free for the first month with 150 MMS to use up during this free period.

I think I may have been able to get the woman down more because she asked me if £49.99 was acceptable to me.

The phone would have cost me between £35 and - £50 on a new contract so I was happy as a sand boy. Someone wants to buy my old SPV for £50 so in the end it has cost me nowt.

So don't give in to Orange. Just ring them everyday. I think it depends on who you get on the other end of the phone. But its the cancellation people you want to speak to not the customer services people. They can't make decisions.

Hope this helps some people. If you paid more than £49.99 then ring them back and complain. There must be loads of people who just pay what they are asked for by O customer services. So now that you know better. Get on the phone to O.

I've just called upgrades and was told some ridiculous price so I tried the "I'm Leaving" tactic and low and behold, an E200 for £49!! Beauty.

 if anyones interested, have a look at the post "if at first you don't succeed" my tale shows how early into contract you can deal. one of the cust relations dept also told me that 9 months is the time you can really start to bend their arms, so anyone getting flannel with weeks to run on their contract should def have a good old moan at orange.
