Guest smeg36 Posted November 21, 2003 Report Posted November 21, 2003 Alright, I have a question about the backlighting on my new SPV. I set it to never turn off, but after 30 sec. or so it turns itself off, then the whole screen will turn of a little bit after that. Why is this happening if I have it set to never turn off? Another backlight question, is there a way to get the backlight to remain on when using PocketMVP? Thanks for the help.
Guest PsychoDave Posted November 21, 2003 Report Posted November 21, 2003 Press number 7 to get the backlight to stay on in PocketMVP As for the other backlight question, is it the homescreen timeout you have set?
Guest smeg36 Posted November 21, 2003 Report Posted November 21, 2003 Thanks for the reply. As foe the home screen timeout, I did have it set, but it was for 10 min. I changed it to never. However, my backlighting still turns oss after 10 sec. I keep changing it until never, bit then it will change back to 10 sec. What is going on?
Guest kyrkesmith Posted November 23, 2003 Report Posted November 23, 2003 Yeah, to be honest the backlight control on the SPV (and E100) is pretty crap. You've basically just got the "screensaver" (turns the screen off) and your "backlight timeout" (pretty self explanatory). They don't always do what they say, and there are programs that seem to change it - as far as I can tell, MSN messenger is one of them too. The only way to sort if properly (apart from other programs interfering) seems to be to edit the registry. I've posted a guide here.
Guest smeg36 Posted November 23, 2003 Report Posted November 23, 2003 Thanks! I will check out your guide when I get home. Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest Pagemakers Posted December 1, 2003 Report Posted December 1, 2003 I have mine set to 10 seconds and the screen turns off after 30!
Guest kyrkesmith Posted December 1, 2003 Report Posted December 1, 2003 What, you have the screensaver set to 10 seconds, or the backlight timeout? Is that just in the normal settings options, or the registry? Backlight seems to need to get properly sorted. Anyone know what it's like in 2003?
Guest Pagemakers Posted December 1, 2003 Report Posted December 1, 2003 Screensaver off. Backlight 10 secs. When I first turn the phone on it works correctly. When I open inbox, the 10 seconds changes to 30 or 40 seconds as if by magic.
Guest kyrkesmith Posted December 1, 2003 Report Posted December 1, 2003 Yeah, I kinda noticed some apps playing about with the backlight, although whatever changes they make don't appear in the registry. MSN Messenger is the best example of this, on my E100, at least. From your phone history, you've got an E200 and an MPx200 (and still and E100?). Does this occur on all of them? Also, does the backlight go back to 10 seconds if you close all tasks using a task manager, having opened the inbox?
Guest Pagemakers Posted December 1, 2003 Report Posted December 1, 2003 I don't have the E100 anymore. The MPX200 behaves as it should - no surprise there then! Closing all apps using task manager makes no difference. I need to re-boot my phone to get back to 10 secs. Any they wonder why the E200's battery only lasts for 20 minutes!
Guest kyrkesmith Posted December 1, 2003 Report Posted December 1, 2003 Is the control identical on the E200's Smartphone 2003 as it was on the E100? If so, that's pretty crap. Surely it's not too much to ask to get the controls up to the level they are on Pocket PC (although I understand MS took their time sorting that with their first PDAs).
