Connecting phone to pc with activesync?

Is there any way to establish a bluetooth connection with pc without using active sync?. It seems very drawn out:

To surf through your pc;

1,Turn on Bluetooth ( Hold home>3>change to on>done>done )( I would like to be able to do this with a speed dial, but don't think you can )

2, Activate active sync ( Start>9>7>Menu>3 ( or 4 sometimes???? :? )

3, Launch PIE ( Start>9>4 )
