Right, my story start with a message on the onstopphoneshop website order thingy saying "Problem - contact sales"

So anyway, spoke to them who send I had to contact orange who wouldn't let them release the handset till i had sorted this problem. They didnt tell me what the problem was.

Anyway, I rung orange, who didnt really know what was wrong - and put it down to the fact they wanted to be sure I was the same person as my other contract. I was told to ring onestop back and tell them it was sorted.

This I did, and onestop um'ed and ahh'ed and eventually said yeah ok, we will try and register it again.

Eventually it came up "order complete" and I received the phone the next day. The phone is still unregistered and unconnected. Orange say they wont connect or register the handset until I have payed my bill.

Because I cant pay till the end of the month, I cant connect my new number. Strangely however, the handset is now being used with my old sim card.

This works fine, and I want to know my position as to whether I now have a handset completely free.

I dont think onestop should of sent it out, but now they have, does that mean I dont even have to have a contract?

I do have the new sim card - it just wont work!

any thoughts?

If you have tried as hard as you write to put things on the proper footing, I would sit back and wait. The general administration of organisations runs on a chaotic confusion of paperwork and self defeating rules.

However, if I were you, I would put it in writing to Orange. If not, then in 4 months when Onestop haven't got their commission and try to sort it out, you might find a huge Direct Debit on your card for the fullretail price of the phone from Onestop. Orange may try to claim back the 4 months' rental on the new number back to the date of sale.

I would also keep your telephone bills for the period to show that you tried to speak to them. You could also email them. (Chances are that they will ignore you, but you then have the legal and moral high ground).

Good luck.
