Guest sbsdegb1 Posted November 24, 2003 Report Posted November 24, 2003 Not sure if this is the right place for this post. So appologise in advance if it isn't. I have spoken to Orange to upgrade my original SPV to E200 and they eventually agreed to do it for £49.95. However a friend of mine has just got the P900 on Orange for free so I am wondering if I should upgrade to this instaed. So basically I am after some advice. P900 or E200. I have been more than happy with my SPV even with its shortcomings. But a change is sometimes a good thing. So anyone got any experience of either phone. Thanks
Guest spacecowboy6982 Posted November 24, 2003 Report Posted November 24, 2003 You should PM "PageMakers" He's had pretty much every "smartphone" out. The only advice I could give you is, what is it you actually want :?: P900::Is a PDA with phone capabilities E200::Is a Phone with PDA capabilities I've recebtly bought the E200, and Im sad to say that it has a few bugs, yet not nearly as many as the original SPV, which was brought out the same time last year. Yet, Im still impressed. The E-200 uses Windows Mobile OS unlike the P900, which uses Symbian based OS, UIQ 2.1. I believe it to be the more "powerful". In my book, Symbian = Simple . Its a Windows Smartphone forum remember so everyone is biased to their SPV, E-200, MPx whatever, but I have to say the E-200 reigns supreme. spacecowboy
Guest sbsdegb1 Posted November 24, 2003 Report Posted November 24, 2003 Thanks SpaceCowboy I have already ordered the E200. just have last minute second thoughts thats all.
Guest spacecowboy6982 Posted November 24, 2003 Report Posted November 24, 2003 Good call mate - I dont think you'll be dissapointed
Guest sbsdegb1 Posted November 24, 2003 Report Posted November 24, 2003 and guess whats just been delivered by courier. My new E200.... Fully charged too. But wheres my clearvue software and city guides ? lol.Not in the box.
Guest spacecowboy6982 Posted November 24, 2003 Report Posted November 24, 2003 You only receive these if you purchase direct from an Orange store. Paul/Midnight have developed a clearvue app which is really gr8  You may feel slightly drunk to start off, but after that you'll never go back to a phone without it ;) spacecowboy

Guest Pagemakers Posted November 24, 2003 Report Posted November 24, 2003 I think the question you should be asking yourself is: E200 or E100 with the 1.6 update! There are quite a few, er, BLAZINGLY OBVIOUS MISTAKES in the E200.
Guest sbsdegb1 Posted November 24, 2003 Report Posted November 24, 2003 podavies.... I cancelled my contract. Then called back and had a good chat with the people at customer retention. They are the people who can make decisions. After 5 mins of stating my case. She said fair enough how does £49.95 sound. I said great I will take it. Customer services quoted me £149.95 + £125 upgrade fee. Tossers.
Guest sbsdegb1 Posted November 24, 2003 Report Posted November 24, 2003 I think the question you should be asking yourself is: E200 or E100 with the 1.6 update! There are quite a few, er, BLAZINGLY OBVIOUS MISTAKES in the E200. At the end of the day I had the original SPV. Only had my E200 a few hours but its a great improvment. Faster menus, faster gprs connection, built in camera etc... The original SPV had loads wrong with it but I have still had it for a year. Anyone know how to disconnect E200 from gprs. On the old SPV you just pressed the hangup key. On my E200 although not using GPRS the G is still diplayed.
Guest Pagemakers Posted November 24, 2003 Report Posted November 24, 2003 The E200 is far better than the original SPV, but just a skip better than the E100 (I have imagined the e100 with the 1.6 update). GPRS on the E200 is designed to remain connected forever. This is discussed at length in the Voyager forum. To manually disconnect, press and hold the home key. And back to your original question the E200 is better than the P900 and Nokia 6600 in my opinion and I have owned them all.
Guest Kallisti Posted November 24, 2003 Report Posted November 24, 2003 You apparently shouldn't need to. It's got working GPRS suspend now, so if a call comes in, it'll drop the connection and restart it when the call ends. Idle GPRS shouldn't use any data AFAIK

Guest Pagemakers Posted November 24, 2003 Report Posted November 24, 2003 I didnt dislike the P900 I just prefer almost everything about the SPV. The P900 was too two handed for me and Im not a fan of the OS Posted from my SmartPhone!

I did think of the P900 for myself but decided to continue down the SPV (E200) route.
Guest Pagemakers Posted November 24, 2003 Report Posted November 24, 2003 There was a bit of debate about my P900 here: www.allaboutsymbian.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=17502
