Guest JampoTT Posted November 24, 2003 Report Posted November 24, 2003 I thought they would be compatible... On my desk at home, I have the E200 cradle. On my desk at work, I have a curly lead which used to charge my SPV and sync with the computer. In my laptop bag I have another curly lead so I can always charge from my laptop even if there isn't a powersocket close, and finally in my car I have a cigarette lighter -> usb adaptor and yet ANOTHER usb cable so wherever I travel, I can charge...!! (phew) So... imagine my horror when, having got in the car for a long drive this morning with the phone running a little low on charge - I plug the phone into my USB lead and into the cigarette lighter, notice that the "plugged into power" symbol is lit, and happily carry on my journey.... only to find that the phone has been lying to me..... An hour down the road, the phone dies and won't startup. Battery completely dead. On further investigation, I realise that NONE of the cables I have will charge my E200. They will sync, however.... but thats only part of the reason I need them! This battery hungry phone needs daily charging!! I thank my lucky stars I decided to bring along the original charger with me, because the phone charges perfectly happily with that... But I can only assume the power take-off pin in the E200 is different from that in the original SPV.... Can anyone else confirm this for me? And if it is the case, does anyone know where I can pick up a further 2 usb -> E200 leads as this is my bare minimum requirement!!
Guest bigjohnuk Posted November 24, 2003 Report Posted November 24, 2003 Agree M8. I was upset to find that the leads and craddles are not the same. I spend money on getting an extra craddle for home on the 1st SPV only to find that I have to go out and buy another craddle for the new E200. John
Guest mdw_cubed Posted November 24, 2003 Report Posted November 24, 2003 My E200 should be arriving today, I was going to post to see if the SPV cradle, sync cable works. No point now  Oh well, I was going to Ebay by original SPV, looks like it will have some accessories to go with it as well.
Guest JampoTT Posted November 24, 2003 Report Posted November 24, 2003 I can live with the cradle not being compatible - the shape of the phone has changed..... But the original SPV used generic HTC cables (one of mine is an O2 XDA cable!) and they were fine for both charging and sync... No idea why the E200 should have the same size aperture for cables, that the sync should work, but NOT the power.....
Guest mdw_cubed Posted November 25, 2003 Report Posted November 25, 2003 Well my E200 arrived and I wanted to sync it quickly, so I only plugged in the cradle, no power cord (although I notice there is a socket) and it was a pleasant surprise to see the charge light come on the handset. I never realised the cradle charge via USB.
Guest AdrianFRST Posted November 26, 2003 Report Posted November 26, 2003 Appears to work for me! I tested this out last night: My E200 plugged into the PC with the SPV classic sync cable and the E200 PSU. Charging icon showed after a few seconds, and checking task manager displayed battery life at 85%. About a minute later battery was up to 86%. I'd have left it for longer but I had to shut the PC down. I'm going to try a longer test tonight.
Guest JampoTT Posted November 26, 2003 Report Posted November 26, 2003 E200 PSU? Thats the whole point of what I'm trying to get around..... There is only 1 PSU supplied, and this stays with my cradle - but I need to be able to use just the sync/charge cables (which worked 100% with my SPV Classic) But what it sounds like you are doing is using the power supply (PSU) as well as the sync cable!!
Guest AdrianFRST Posted November 26, 2003 Report Posted November 26, 2003 Ahh.. charging via USB rather than the mains? I wasn't aware you could do that on any SPV. In that case ignore my comments!
Guest skyvalley Posted November 26, 2003 Report Posted November 26, 2003 Does anyone know whether when you draw charging power from the usb port the phone does a full charging cycle or does it just trickle charge?
Guest sbsdegb1 Posted November 26, 2003 Report Posted November 26, 2003 E200 PSU? Thats the whole point of what I'm trying to get around..... My original SPV charge and sync cable works fine with my E200. However my cobbled together car charger which was a Nokia car charger with the SPV dongle forced on the end doesn't. But it used to charge my SPV. I have a USB car adapter which I will try with the charge and sync cable and see if it works.
Guest mdw_cubed Posted November 26, 2003 Report Posted November 26, 2003 Don't know much about the full charge cycle or trickle charge, but I had a mate modify an additional cradle I got for my original SPV to charge via USB and it's worked great for months. I had the modified cradle at work, and my SPV charged all day. Took it home, by the morning 2 or 3 bars were still left, got to work and put it in the cradle. I only had to use my original unmodified cradle on weekends at home. With the E200 cradle charging via USB I think I'll have the cradle at work and just charge at home with the adapter and maybe get a bluetooth dongle for home to sync. (Battery life permitting of course)
Guest BoooDave Posted January 6, 2004 Report Posted January 6, 2004 These replies seem to cantradict eachother slightly, but I'm guessing that those of you that have tried plugging an e200 into an original spv cradle with original spv charger plugged into it, didn't blow up your e200s? That's all I really wanted to know.... BUT... now that I'm here... how did you get your e200 to fit in the old cradle??
Guest mdw_cubed Posted January 6, 2004 Report Posted January 6, 2004 how did you get your e200 to fit in the old cradle?? I don't think anyone has mentioned getting an E200 to fit in the original SPV cradle. I don't think it's possible. (Originally I was hoping it was before I got my E200) What has been discussed is the SPV Sync/Charge Cable which is basically a USB lead with a similar end to the adapter that goes on the end of the standard power supply charger. This lead not only allows you to sync in the same way as using the cradle, but also charges the phone from the USB socket of the PC. It is also possible to get a cigarette lighter -> usb adapter which will then allow the sync/charge cable to be used as a charge cable in the car. Note though, that the car charging doesn't seem to work for everyone. :?
Guest keni Posted January 6, 2004 Report Posted January 6, 2004 My experiance with is as follows; Orginal cradle would work if the moldings wern't different. My XDA Travel charger works fine. Plus my car charger bought from orange shop works too, so I don't know what the fuss is :)Picture 002.jpg
