Guest mantrac Posted November 24, 2003 Report Posted November 24, 2003 Do you feel that Orange and M$ have abandoned the SPV and its user community due to the complete lack of bug fixes and updates?
Guest capt_janeway Posted November 24, 2003 Report Posted November 24, 2003 No - I've been very happy with my SPV - bugs included. I have ordered the e200 as an improvement to an already wonderful phone And this is what we sometimes lose sight of - compared to everything else out there the SPV is heads and shoulders above all of them!
Guest drblow Posted November 24, 2003 Report Posted November 24, 2003 I think maybe one of the voting options should have been - YES - but I will only continue with Orange because I can't get the e200 on another network.
Guest unclelimey Posted November 24, 2003 Report Posted November 24, 2003 i think the poll should have been... "have orange got their thumbs up their asses? " with 3 possible answers : 1 yes 2 no 3 yes - but not when they are pointing the finger of blame at microsoft
Guest unclelimey Posted November 24, 2003 Report Posted November 24, 2003 sorry, i'm at the end of my teather here, big breaths... think calming thoughts... breeeeaaatttthhhheee and release ahhhh, much better
Guest morpheus2702 Posted November 24, 2003 Report Posted November 24, 2003 I don't think it is anywhere near as simple as a 'yes' or 'no' answer. If you asked something like 'how comitted do you feel Orange and MS are to Smartphone' then I would say 'not very'. Orange is sleeping with all parties in the Smartphone war - Symbian, Palm and Smartphone. MS are still finding their feet. I love my E100 when it works properly, when I can surf on it, pick up news, get my mail. Fan-f***ing-tastic. But when I hit a key and nothing happens for 30 seconds, when it forgets a T9 word, when GPRS fails to connect, I feel like throwing it against a wall.

The nail now has a very sore head cos that was a direct hit!

Guest statscat Posted November 24, 2003 Report Posted November 24, 2003 how can Orange have abandoned the MS platform when they now have 4 MS based handsets ? SPV 2002 E100 2002 MPx200 2002 E200 2003 and other operators have yet to release 1 ? I agree that the delays with the update 1.6 aren't great but really Orange will be just as worried about it as we are regarding timescales and from the reports re people who did install the dodgy leaked ROM I think we can all tell why they didn't release it ......... because it wasn't any good and had a bad effect on your phone so they no doubt sent it back to MS and HTC asking (why ??) I think Orange are one of the most committed operators when it comes to MS, they went with it the first and still in the UK the only operator to use them(though I think others are releasing the mpx soon) I also think that its good that Orange provide there customers with a choice of smartphones from Palm, MS and Symbian everyone has there favourite so why restrict your users ? long testing times are inevitable with a device as complex as the MS smartphone and lets be honest MS products always need updates, its the nature of the beast be thankful they are updateable. We all need to remember I guess that humans are involved in the system at every step so we have to allow for that favourite of things: Human error
Guest beersoft Posted November 24, 2003 Report Posted November 24, 2003 saying orange have abandoned MS is like saying O2 abandoned MS with only 2 pocketpc phones. "oh no, orange haven't released 30 MS Smartphones this week, they hate us, they hate MS, they love nokia" orange have done a good job i think with the tools they had, its a new phone, there are bound to be bugs and problems, if any of you guys have worked in a support environment you know how hard it is to know every problem on every platform. we should give orange a little slack, they have given us every smartphone except 2, which isn't in my book dropping MS in any way shape or form. yes there support for us could be better, yes they dropped the ball with the joystick thing. but abandoning the smartphone platform no later Owen "kids, keep the toys in the pram"
Guest morpheus2702 Posted November 25, 2003 Report Posted November 25, 2003 For Orange providing 4 MS Smartphones, read 2! Had the SPV not been superceded by the E100 and now the E200, they'd still be selling it! And as for their commitment to the platform, how many Symbian phones do they offer? 7650, 3650, P800 with the 6600 and P900 waiting in the wings. What makes me think Orange either don't care that much about the platform, or simply that they do not realise what they have on their hands is the way they have squandered the SPV and its descendants. The SPV was Orange's first own branded phone of significance. And what capabilities it had! Did Joe Public get to hear about them? Does the average punter in the street even know what an SPV was? Look at what Vodafone did with the GX10 and Vodafone Live. OK it wasn't Vodafone's own phone, but by hell didn't it become synominous with Voda? It was the phone everyone wanted last Christmas and they put up enough money to advertise it and ram it down the consumer's throat. What promotion has been done for the SPV and its descendants? Bugger all! Its not as if Orange or MS haven't got the funds to do it! So why aren't they getting behind it? Conspiracy theorists get to work. There's Orange smoke coming from the grassy knoll.
