Guest Bunchie Posted November 24, 2003 Report Posted November 24, 2003 I just wanted to know what peoples opinions were now that we effectively have two platforms that are in some ways not backwards compatible. Do you think that developers are going to concentrate purely on Windows Mobile 2003 devices due to the .Net framework? Or do you think that developers will make sure their software works on both platforms?
Guest rireed Posted November 25, 2003 Report Posted November 25, 2003 Besides .NET making WMobile apps easier to make more web friendly, the pressure on developers is to use up-to-date development environments. Who wants to hire a C/C++ programmer? To quote a work colleague "SPV will be a brick in less than a year". The 'FM radio card' mentioned on another thread already requires .NET CF. I'm a bit torqued with Orange's attitude so far, so when my contract runs out, if they don't have a £50 upgrade to WM2003 (as some users, usually on high monthly charge, are getting to E200 as theirs end now), my expensive new toy will go on someone else's contract. :x
Guest Bunchie Posted November 25, 2003 Report Posted November 25, 2003 I'm just hoping that Smartphone 2002 is not forgotten about and that plenty of games and apps are still made for it. Otherwise i've just shelled out for a pretty expensive paperweight
Guest drblow Posted November 25, 2003 Report Posted November 25, 2003 "you hear that ... that is the sound of inevitability ..."
Guest gcparris Posted November 25, 2003 Report Posted November 25, 2003 To be honest though it's a whole lot easier to develop apps for WM2003. I am a C/C++ and C# developer and I have developed for WM2002 and WM2003. Give me WM2003 and .NET any day, even though I have a SPV E100 !!
Guest spacemonkey Posted November 25, 2003 Report Posted November 25, 2003 I think we'll continue to see most games available for both phones for a while. For performance the games will probly be written in C anyway. However, .Net makes apps a LOT easier to build, so I think we'll see a huge increase in app development and they'll be for 2k3 phones only.
Guest Pagemakers Posted November 25, 2003 Report Posted November 25, 2003 They dont write specific Windows 98 apps anymore do they . . . . . Posted from my SmartPhone!
