E200 bugs & problems I have found so far...

Hi.

I got my E200 last week and I am mostly happy with it. There are a few bits here and there that are missing though which I think are quite annoying ones. I know some have been posted before, but maybe MS will pay more attention if more people complain? ;)

1. Bluetooth sound - I am using a SE HBH-60. For some reason just about every other call the sound is broken. I can hear them, but they can't hear me. I don't think this is a mode problem, or I wouldn't even get a connection. I don't know how to get around this.

2. Bluetooth car kit - I have the SE HCB-30. I guess there is no profile for this or the car kit doesn't support the right profile. No matter what I do, the E200 just won't use it as a headset. It does however pair although it is extremely slow to pair with the car kit.

3. MMS Text colour - What is the point of allowing you to change the background colour of an MMS message if you can't change the text colour. You can't use dark backgrounds really.

4. MMS Page timing - On the E100 you and most other MMS clients that support multiple pages, you can set the timing of the pages in order to get a nice little animation effect going. Not on the E200. I think it would be really useful.

5. MMS Sounds - In the Orange Guide, it says you can create a melody or voice recording using the Insert Sound option on an MMS. This is very much not true. You can only select already created sounds. The imelody composer and record AMR feature of the E100 is no longer there, and you can't record voice. The MMS player itself doesn't support amr sound files. Which I find extremely odd as nearly all MMS phones use AMR as their sound format.

6. Video messaging - Orange happily advertise video messaging, and have offered me 5 free video messages a month with my Open World plan. I can't use them though, because according to the guide, you can't send messages over 100K. So instead of making a check for size, they just greyed out the feature. And yes I know it's kinda stupid, but if I create a video file that is 2 seconds long and under 100K, then I want to be able to send that message and make use of the features I have on my phone plan.

6. GPRS - Where to begin...ok...the auto disconnect thing is annoying, and should be sorted. I know you can hold the home key down and disconnect (took me a while to figure that one out) but why change something that was working in the E100? I know you only pay for data transferred, but still, I don't like to leave it connected in case things like activesync keep going.

7. SMS and MMS Delivery Reports - I know I am just repeating and old one here, but hey....if more people complain they might actually do it. Why can't these be set to On by default? Come on now MS...it's important to the little people.

8. T9 - This is about a year behind all the other T9 features available. Firstly, its a nuisance if you make a mistake and have to erase the whole word and type it again....you should really be able to reselect the word and choose another one. This is a huge problem for me. I can still text a thousand times faster using my good old T610.

9. T9 again - This does not automatically capitalise the first word of a new sentence.

10. SMS - This might be me being stupid, but I don't know how to insert a new line using T9 when editing a message. (Thank goodness for the flexi keyboard thing!) I'm fairly sure you should be able to. Who wants to type an entire email in one paragraph? I know that on my T610 you can do it. Heck, why don't they just steal the T9 code from SE???

11. Tasks - Why can't these be on the home screen as a default plugin. They're just as important as appointments.

12. Tasks again - Why can't they be edited????? You can add new and delete old...but sometimes you want to edit them too. Only a bit annoying.

13. Home screen - not a bug but a problem for me. I thought the layout would have been just a bit more flexible by now. If you can dynamically place objects on an html page, why not on the home screen. It would be much more useful for me if I could place things as I wanted to, like put two of the plugins next to each other instead of below. Its about time the home screen was more flexible. I have such good ideas for the home screen, but can't make them work properly atm.

Ok....I think that's my two cents worth for now. Overall it's a good phone, and I quite like it. It took me a while to get used to the idea that the Orange SPV series are quite ugly compared to all the other phones I have gone through, but I must admit I prefer using the Windows Mobile interface compared to SE and Nokia.

Cya round!

FYI I installed a HCB-30 yesterday, paired the phone instantly, advised it used headset profile, and bonded successfully.

The kit works faultlessly - obviously no access to voicedial but apart from that PERFECT.

I take it you mean the first letter?.....I just tested this on mine, it works for me. Are you inserting a space after the full stop, cos if u don't then it won't work

Another thing to add to your list.... the E200's joystick is only 4-way (not 8-way like the E100!)

7. Yes yes yes, I want too!!!!

8. Don't have a clue what you're on about!

9. It does!! (My procedure, write text, full stop (1) space (#) then type e.g. "It works" the "I" will be capital. On mine anyway.)

10. Insert new line - press Action button in.

12. I agree

has anyone noticed that the pictures in dim mode are actually exactly the same as in normal mode? the preview picture looks brighter, but whne you take a picture it comes out just as dark as normal!! and why doesnt the zoom work?

I posted a kind of fix about this in the IA Style forum, it'll be in one of the very recent threads in that forum.
