Guest shadamehr Posted November 25, 2003 Report Posted November 25, 2003 I bought myself a high quality reputable brand 256 MB SD card today. The card works fine 'as such' (i.e. a card reader can read and write to it fine, and after so doing, the E200 can 'see' and use the files on it). But the second I use ActiveSync, and try and browse to the StorageCard using Explore the phone with the card in the phone itself and not a card reader, and I get all kinds of errors. - lack of memory on the phone, write protect errors on the card, in the file itself etc - none of them actually being correct. Given that the card 'works' fine though, and even the phone itself can see and use files placed on the card by way of a card reader, then I'd say its another actual E200 phone or Active Sync problem, and not the card... All that money for it too... And after reading the manual for ages, er, HOW do you format an SD card on an E200 - I assume there MUST be a way, otherwise how would anyone else use a card that became corrupt, if they did not have a card reader device to do it that way? Therefore a way should and must exist for the formatting of an SD card placed in the phone. Anyone know how???
Guest James Posted November 25, 2003 Report Posted November 25, 2003 You need to get hold of a program called SP Task Manager.. this will allow you to format the SD card... you willl need an app unlocked (decertified) phone to use it though ( i think :? )
Guest shadamehr Posted November 26, 2003 Report Posted November 26, 2003 No joy whatsoever... App Unlocked my E200 from the Orange Developer site - tested it with the ClearType app. - worked fine. So installed Task Manager. Sure enough, the option exists to format the card. Problem is, it won't most of the time - "Error while formatting the card". Now this COULD indicate a poor card... except like I said, it will work simply dandy in a USB Card Reader, and using that method, I can format it anytime, add whatever I want to the phone, and the e200 will then see the images, songs etc on the card once I insert it. Additionally, I ordered TWO 256Mb cards - one for songs for my partner's N-gage. NEITHER of them work well in the E200... But BOTH of them work just fine on a PC, Card Reader, or in the N-Gage. Even those rare occasions that it WILL let me format the card in Task Manager, as soon as I try and use it in the phone to save stuff (for example setting the path for images to the Storage Card), then it fails, telling me its an invalid path (it DOES see the card fine first though - only when trying to save images does this happen). So my conclusion, is that the E200 is the fault, being more than just picky, but downright faulted. I say this not as a moaner, but because I will very rightly look like an idiot returning the cards for a refund, when a test at the dealer end will show them to be in perfect order. Cheers E200. Don't suppose anyone has any additional suggestions??? Copying stuff onto it using a Card Reader is all well and good, but no use to me if I can't set the E200 to save photos and videos it creates, to direct onto the Storage Card... Looks like I'm gonna have to TRY and get away with sending one back... Or maybe a visit to the Orange shop, to see if they can get a 256MB card to work with my phone - will they have one of these to test do you think? ------ And still no indication of when or how I might be able to BlueTooth Beam my Images to my g/f's N-gage, as its seeming most very likely that there is no Phone Inbuilt support to do this (unbelievable), and no sign of a third party app to allow it yet, as the Smart Explorer and Task Manager apps don't do this either...
Guest rolywalter Posted November 27, 2003 Report Posted November 27, 2003 I'm having the same difficulty. I find I CAN copy stuff onto the insternal Storage folder but not onto the storage card. And I had no difficulty with my E100. What is going on?!!
Guest shadamehr Posted November 27, 2003 Report Posted November 27, 2003 Yes, but Roly, have you confirmed the card is GOOD... Many SD Cards of lesser quality and sometimes do not work. In your case, have you confirmed the card is good? In my case, I can use the card many other ways, on many other devices etc, but NOT for saving files direct from the E200 itself, or through Active Synce exploring. Thus the indications are that the card is fine, but that the E200 is the thing that is tempramental...
Guest Schioett Posted November 27, 2003 Report Posted November 27, 2003 Just had a chat with Orange support Denmark and they told me that there is a (known) problem with Kingston SD memory! The problem is (he said) that you are unable to write anything to your card if its a kingston. The problem wasn't there with the prototypes, but sort of popt up when they got the relaese version of the software/hardware! Support had never heard of the T9 bug... And his answer to the MMS bug was the the sounds had to of AMR type - I thought "ohh - okay" and said goodbye - just to find out that the man was full of B.S. and he was infact telling me a garbage. Tried to phone him back up - but he wasn't availble (surprise...) Damn - already hate Orange - have only been on there network 6 days.... Cheers Jesper

Hazarding a bit of a logical guess, but given that this fits my problem, would it be fair to suspect that as well as their own labelled memory, Kingston will ALSO actually MAKE memory for other companies to label as their own... Failing that, I suspect that the problem, whatever it is, will thus extend to one or two other manufacturers... So, in terms of returning a perfectly working SD card to eBuyer, would one assume that this is a phone issue, or a memory issue... Makes a lot of difference when you are stuck with two apparently otherwise working, expensive 256MB SD cards...
