@* FYI !

FPJ i think, is the only candidate that is against globalization (GATT-WTO policies/rules). ayon sa mga tao dun sa peasant forum sa UP

Globalization per se is not evil.

Siguro we should first understand ang advantages and disadvantages of being in the world market. To say na masama sa atin ang globalization is premature.

Globalization can open up more opportunities for our local industries, na nangangahulugan ng mas maraming trabaho para kay Juan dela Cruz. On the otherside, pwede ring mamatay ang mga industriya natin dahil hindi maka compete sa ibang bansa.

What we lack are "safety nets". These safety nets will give our businesses and industries more advantage. Farm to market roads, lower taxes, infrastructures, etc.

Yun lang...

My two centavos :lol:

And so it begins :roll:

Opposition heads for split

Like his rival Fernando Poe Jr., Sen. Panfilo Lacson is determined to run for president, a scenario that will split the political opposition.

In an interview, Lacson said yesterday it is now inevitable that there will be at least two presidential candidates from the ranks of the opposition.

"There’s no one else to blame (for this) but Poe and his political backers," he said.

ok!!! eto baka kasi wala kayong kaalam alam sa constitution natin so here it is...

Qualifications of the President and Vice-President.

Section 2 provides for the basic or minimum qualifications of the President.

(1) He is a NATURAL-BORN citizen of the Philippines;

(2) He is a registered voter;

(3) He is able to read and write;

(4) He is at least forty (40) years of age on the election (not proclamation or assumption of office) for President; and

(5) He is a resident of the Philippines for at least ten (10) years immediately preceding such election.

The Vice-President must have the same qualifications as the President. (section 3)

reference: Textbook on the Philippine Constitution by Hector s.

CONCLUSION

Fernando Poe Jr.: Unqualified or Underestimated?

By Isagani de Castro Jr.

NEWSBREAK Contributing writer

In July 1998, less than a month in office, Joseph Estrada got his first taste of political controversy as the nation’s president. His support for the proposal of former First Lady Imelda Marcos that the late President Ferdinand Marcos be buried at the Heroes Cemetery in Fort Bonifacio drew a howl of protest from anti-Marcos forces. Estrada eventually changed his mind. The reason: an appeal from his best friend, Fernando Poe Jr.

"This I can reveal. It was FPJ who persuaded President Erap [not to support the proposal] because it was the wrong time," said Kris Aquino, daughter of former president Aquino, in a press conference for the movie Mano Po 2. "And that’s why my mommy and I had dinner with him, to thank him. I remember my mommy told him that the presidency is the loneliest place to be in. [And she told him], always be there for your friend because you don’t have any interest other than being his friend."

This anecdote gives an indication of Poe’s political instincts. It also seems to reinforce what his drumbeaters are saying about his sense of national unity. "Our goal is unity. Our goal is peace. Our goal is economic recovery and stability," Poe said in a speech read for him by Senator Vicente "Tito" Sotto III at the Philippine Business Conference on November 29.

The claim that he has not taken advantage of his close ties with Estrada is being trumpeted by Poe partisans as the best proof that he will not abuse the powers of the presidency the way his buddy did. Referring to Poe, Estrada has said on more than one occasion: "Even when I was mayor, senator, vice president and president, he never asked me any favor."

But with no political experience and being a high school dropout, Poe may be the most unqualified candidate for the presidency. The greatest fear of many is that Poe will be Erap remixed.

Court allows Estrada to go to US; prosecution to appeal

THE SANDIGANBAYAN anti-graft court Tuesday gave deposed president Joseph Estrada an early Christmas gift, after the special division conducting his plunder trial granted his motion to undergo knee surgery in the United States.

Estrada said he was disappointed with the decision because it also declared his petition for a Christmas furlough, which would have allowed him time with his ailing mother, "moot and academic."

The "permission to travel" for "medical reasons" is good for three months, starting in 10 days from the time Estrada receives the resolution and ending on March 31, 2004.

The permission also effectively confines Estrada to his detention quarters in a military camp in Tanay town, outside Manila, for the next week and a half.

Estrada told the Inquirer he might just meet his mother at the airport. He said he hoped to leave before Jan. 10.
