Guest fenice Posted November 26, 2003 Report Posted November 26, 2003 Hi Has anyone managed to hard reset an E200? My shiny new phone hangs on the MS Mobile screen and needs the battery removing to power-off, the phone worked all day then yesterday evening it locked-up. I've tried the instructions here http://snurl.com/341x - when I press the joystick down I still get the striped screen. If I press the joystick for a couple of seconds the screen just goes white and locks, battery removal needed to power-off. Is there another method or key that needs pressing for the E200? Any help appreciated.
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted November 26, 2003 Report Posted November 26, 2003 Make sure you have a storage card in the phone when trying to do a Hard Reset. If you are getting a White screen this normally indicates that you have the plastic dummy card in the phone.
Guest fenice Posted November 26, 2003 Report Posted November 26, 2003 Ah, I guess I'll have to go out and buy one then. It took me a while to realise the card was even a dummy, duh. Thanks for the tip. ;)

It took me a while to realise the card was even a dummy, duh. Thanks for the tip. ;) Also, when you press the action key (step 3) remember to hold it for 2 secs. or so... it's not enough just to press the key. Cheers. G
Guest fenice Posted November 27, 2003 Report Posted November 27, 2003 Yes, I'd spotted that in a post somewhere. I've just got the SD card and managed to do a reset so I'm back in business. Thanks for your post.
Guest Dumdidum Posted November 27, 2003 Report Posted November 27, 2003 Hei in the accesoirs-folder is a program called "Clear storage" THAT IS ACTUALLY HARDRESETING YOUR DEVICE! cool!
Guest fenice Posted November 27, 2003 Report Posted November 27, 2003 Yes, that true but ... my phone wouldn't boot. It locked at the MS Mobile screen at boot and wouldn't get any further, a hard reset via the keys was the only way to get it back.
Guest clifhanger_uk Posted August 22, 2004 Report Posted August 22, 2004 Can anyone help I recently lost my 256 SD Card :) and since then my phone has gone totally knackered. First I couldnt access any of the settings ("The settings cannot be opened") and now the Flight mode is on and cant be turned off and I have a little exclamation mark on the batt indicator despite me having charged it. No sim card cuz I lost it so only plastic filler. Also, 'clear storage' gives me a "access denied, not digitally signed" error Can I fix it? From reading the posts it seems that I need a SD card to try a hard reset Thanks all.
Guest ferret Posted August 22, 2004 Report Posted August 22, 2004 I'd try a hard reset personally. Sounds like your phone has gone awol.
Guest Will Posted August 23, 2004 Report Posted August 23, 2004 confused, you have no sim card or no storage card? with patience and practise you can get to the hard reset menu without anything in the sd-card slot.. it's just hard to get the timing correct

I don't think it's too difficlut to do a hard reset without an SD Card, the first time I did the hard reset, I did it without the SD Card.
Guest clifhanger_uk Posted August 23, 2004 Report Posted August 23, 2004 confused, you have no sim card or no storage card? Yea sorry meant SD card. I'll try the hard reset anyway so thanks for confirming that it can be done. On the better news front I complained to my boss that my phone died and Orange will be giving me an upgrade to the c500!!!! Yipeee. Arrives tomorrow! hehe, more new stuff to play with. Thanks guys p.s. How come Im still set as a "newbe"? Ive been a member of this forum since the launch of the SPV 1. And them stars, what are they? cant I get some of those too??? :)
Guest Disco Stu Posted August 23, 2004 Report Posted August 23, 2004 You need 50+ posts before you lose your Newbie status - and you'll pick up stars as your post count increases :)

Thanks for your help guys but Im still having problems here. This is what I do... Press and hold pwr and 'Voice Memo' butt Get a grey screen that says "Card Found" Immediately press and hold the action button for 2 seconds Get grey screen saying press any key to enter bootloader. Whether or not I press a key I then get the 3 colour screen with 'Smart phone v1.03 doc' I get the same result if I dont press the action key atall so either my timing is out or it aint working. Pauls instruction said 9. Press and hold the Action button (joystick middle button) for 2 seconds as instructed. I dont get an instruction, should I? The 'action button' is the joystick right? 10. Press 8 to select 'Erase IPSM data'. I never get to this bit. I am presing the action key before it says 'press any key to enter bootloader'? i.e. when it says 'Card Found' Maybe I do need a SD card but I aint got one
Guest Disco Stu Posted August 25, 2004 Report Posted August 25, 2004 I seem to remember reading that the grey blank / plug will suffice. Just so you've got something in the slot.
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted August 25, 2004 Report Posted August 25, 2004 Maybe I do need a SD card but I aint got one  Yep you do need one I'm afraid.
Guest clifhanger_uk Posted August 26, 2004 Report Posted August 26, 2004 Hey, guys I dont often need to correct you but in this case I went into a Orange shop to borrow a SD card to do the hard reset and it wouldnt work. They got tech support on the phone and I spoke to the most helpfull orange employee ever. It says 'card found' at the start because either an SD card or plastic one is in. When I took it out I was able to do a hard reset... Not sure why then you guys needed to have an SD card in, maybe a ROM issue, i was on a very old ROM 1.1.x.x. Anyway, I just thought Id let you know. Anyway, net result is that Orange gave me a new C500 because of my dodgy E200 which I have now fixed by resetting so Im left with a E200 and a C500... hehe, cool :) Thanks guys!
